Hello, and welcome to a trip down memory lane. A dark lane, with horrors lurking in the shadows.
Somewhere out there - beyond the fields we know, beyond the stars we wish upon, beyond the dreams we forget upon waking - are worlds and wars unknown. Upon misty battlefields and eerie landscapes, lit by dragonfire and magical storms, the remnants of a destroyed realm continue an ancient struggle.
One of the key concepts of my Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, touched upon at many times over the years yet never directly addressed, was a war in the heart of eternity. This conflict is spread across countless worlds, involving vast armies and heroes beyond number, and has lasted for untold eons. It is the cause of the Aura Storms that swept the lands of Samuria, of the mirrors that hung in mid-air in The Darkest Forest, of the rise of the Savage Tide, of the quest undertaken by the Heroes Of Kalmar, of the fall of The Kingdom Of Rain, of the imprisonment of the Amber Dragon, of the Battle Of Burning Blood, of the Gate Watch Incident, of the Horror Of Warlock Hill, of the gatherings at the Broken Spear Inn, of the Doom that came to Rockfellow, of the fading of the Time-Pools, and of so many other calamities and momentous events.
In short, it is what playing Oblivion rather often reminds me of (when not invoking campaign settings like Dark Sun and PlaneScape, of course).
Which is why one of my current characters is Eloise Stormguard, a Storm Elf and Storm Knight. For her, I am assuming that her Order sent her to scout Tamriel for sign of a legendary figure rumoured to have passed this way long ago. Perhaps she will find some ancient relic, or new cause to champion. Perhaps your next character is on a similar crusade . . .
The Storm Elves are defined as follows:
Otherworldly wanderers, the Storm Elves are mysterious and wise. Magic seems to flow through them, and turn away at their bidding. Their perspective is far greater than any one world, culture, or lifetime.
The Storm Knight class is defined as follows:
The Vigilant Order Of The Eternal Storm is dedicated to battling otherworldly forces. They stand firm in the face of horror.
This class is specifically intended to be used with the Storm Elf race.
