About this mod

Adds Roman-styled helmets and shields to the Imperial Legion

Permissions and credits
Welcome to the fourteenth installment of my Oblivion Immersion Series.  Cyrodiil, our fantasy Rome, is disappointingly not very Roman.  Yeah, yeah, Rome as seen through the lens of pop culture is pretty inauthentic too, but toga parties are more Roman than Cyrodiil.  Previous mods have addressed this problem, but why not add one more to the pile?  Gallic helmets and rectangular scuta shields all around!   Some things to note:

- The palace guards do not have any edits to their helmets, as the mod helmets do not match the color scheme of their armor
- The shields for both the palace guards and the legionaries have been changed

A dark alternative texture set is available for the added helmets, and requires that the main version be installed first.

Requirements
=============

Oblivion Version 1.2.0416

Installation Instructions
======================

Copy contents into your Oblivion data folder

Uninstallation Instructions
========================

Delete the esp an the added meshes and textures

Optional Files
=============

The MRL dark retex file offers an alternative color scheme for the helmets and crests.  Install it after the main file.

Incompatibility
==============

Fully compatible with Diverse Guards.  Will work fine with mesh and texture replacers like Hi-Rez Armors - Imperial Legion and amnes' Remade Refined Legion Armor, so long as this mod is installed last.  Incompatible with myopic's Morrowind-style Legion Shield, as both mods do the exact same thing and using both would be redundant.  Also incompatible with mods like Elderscrollfan001's Cyrodiil Roman Legion.  Some mods like Elderscrollsfan001's Legion Armor Romanesque are a grey-area; use both at your own risk.

Known Issues
============

The helmets may show some slight clipping issues with NPC faces due to the lack of a egm file. There is nothing I can do about this.

Ideas I Want to Implement, but Lack the Skill to Implement
=====================================================

I tried adding silver masks to the helmets to imitate the masks worn by Roman soldiers during horse shows and exercises (called hippika gymnasia), but was unable to make the meshes work.  Anyone who has feedback on how to produce a masked helmet or wants to try it for themselves is welcome.
