This is important. If you don't do this, the mod WILL NOT WORK!!! I am going with a new distribution technique, and as such, you must DELETE all the files from the older version of the mod. Here's a list of the directories you MUST delete:

textures\menus\icons\clutter\000lute
textures\clutter\000lute
meshes\clutter\000lute
sound\fx\000lute
sound\voice\000lute.esp
textures\menus\icons\clutter\000lute

If you don't delete these, the mod WILL NOT WORK!!! DELETE THOSE DIRECTORIES!!!!

-----1.INTRODUCTION-----
I was putzing about one day when I decided that I would start roleplaying a Bard in Oblivion. I decided what sorts of spells I would use and what sorts of weapons and arm and the whoel nine yards. But after doing all that and playing for a while, I found something to be lacking. I may have been calling myself a Bard but I couldn't find anything uniquely Bard like about me (other than that I was using the disposition and aggression effecting spells). So, I sought out to find a way to make my Bard, and any Bard after me, unique...

-----3.CONTENT-----
This mod includes a brand new item to this game: a Minstrel's lute (though you could call it a Bard's lute if you wanted to) that can be aquired by doing a quest for the retired Bard, Bolrin. You will find him at Lake Canalus in a farm house. Once you finish the quest, you should have the lute and 2 editions of A Bard's Guide to Luting. The 2nd edition has the most up to date information and describes where you can play the lute.

To play the lute, drop it on the ground and activate it. A menu will come up that is very self explanatory. If you can't figure it out, there is no use trying to explain it here :-P. As a note, I have changed the menu system for this release. The menu you all know and love has been replaced. If you cannot play the lute, a message will appear on screen and you will simply pick it back up, and if you can a menu will pop up asking which (if any) song you want to play.

Once you play the lute you will recieve monetary compensation from the locals for your work. The amount you get is based on your personality, mercantile, and speechcraft skill, which song you play, and where you are. This is all put on a 50 gold differential for variation. Now, because it is so easy to earn money with this mod, for balancing purposes, you may only play the lute once a day.

-----4.INSTALLATION-----
NOTE TO USERS OF VERSION 1: For the mod to work correctly you must first disable version 1, load your game, and save. Then you may enable Version 3.

NOTE TO USERS OF VERSION 2: I have not tested this, as I don't have version 2 anymore, but you may not be able to acquire the updated book. If this occurs, you've got two options. 1) Read the note for version 1 users and do that (this means redoing the quest), 2)In the console, type "player.additem xx0003dea". Replace xx with the when your mod is loaded (i.e. If the mod is loaded 15th than replace xx with 15). If you don't know, just cycle through 02 and up until it adds the book.

NOTE TO USERS OF VERSION ALL VERSIONS: If you haven't already, read the beginning of the readme. If you do not do what is there, the mod will not work, period.

For the OMOD users, this is very simple to install. Simply click on the file you downloaded and then activate 000Lute in the OBMM launcher. For everyeone else, simply extract the .zip file into the data folder.

-----5.BUGS/CONFLICTS-----
This shouldn't conflict with any mods, unless they modify the two parts of the wilderness I used and Bruma. Also, it appears that the statue of you, in Bruma, is broken by my mod. I'm looking into a way to fix this. Also, I am aware that there are no strings on this lute. I also know that there aren't any fret boards. On top of that, I know that the bar underneath the hole is, likewise, not there. This is namely because I am not a very good modeller or texturer. This may not be the prettiest lute you've ever seen, but it's the best I could do. Don't message me complaining about these things unless you are willing to work with me to fix them. -----6.TO DO LIST-----
DONE - Add a wandering Bard merchant to sell the lute.
DONE - Add in a set of songs you can play. Depending on the song you play in specific taverns you will get more or less gold. This will allow me to implement all of the taverns in because I will no longer be taking up the maximum line length in the script editor by putting all the taverns on one line.
3. Add magical lutes. Each one will do a Bard like spell (the ones I mentioned using in my game, namely)
4. On top of magical lutes, the spell cast will depend on a key stroke you input. If it matches a "song" that casts a spell, that particular spell is cast. I hope this mod gets popular so I have a reason to do that because I'm excited about trying and completing this part.
5. Maybe, if all goes well (meaning downloads of this mod come in high numbers) I may consider creating a Bard's Guild. But, this is not a promise. It's just me saying that I might consider it.

-----7.A NOTE-----
This lute, in non-functional form, will also be featured in cd470's great mod, "Forgiveness and Slander". In this mod your fame and infamy can be raised or lowered by doing certain things for people or by giving certain people money. Hop onto the Elder Scrolls forums and give it a search for more information.
