Sensible Settings is an experimental little test of game setting adjustments via scripting. The mod uses scripts to apply game setting values from a json file as written in the file by the user. The mod offers the ability to have a setting set to a certain value at savegame load and also optionally re-set to a value every n seconds. The maintenance quest update interval, as well as the setting reset interval can also be adjusted by the user via the configuration file. The mod uses in-game scripting to apply the game setting values (using a gamemode script block) and is therefore somewhat limited. It should be noted that Wrye Bash offers options to change game settings while rebuilding a Bashed Patch, so if considering whether to use this mod, please, see the documentation for Wrye Bash for settings that can be managed by it. It most likely has exactly what you are looking for. This mod is mainly meant for those who somehow cannot use Wrye Bash or wish to change settings those either cannot be managed with it or are overridden by a mod's scripts at game load. While this mod may not always be able to help, it might in some cases. The inspiration to create this mod came from Striker879, who was assisting users on the forums in matters concerning game settings. He had a script to change cell respawn hours, but it seemed rather simple, so I thought I could try make it a little bit easier to configure and a little bit more elegant. Before downloading this mod, however, do note that this mod may not be bug-free and will certainly not be of professional quality.

As an example, this mod can, for example, be used to change cell respawn hours, maximum armour rating, inventory quantity prompt, strength encumbrance multiplier, text displayed when starting a new game, skill names and such. All three types of game settings are supported (float, integer and string). String setting changes will not be visible on first save load, though, and it is an issue I cannot seem to be able to fix. Although the mod has a few predefined settings available to be changed, the user can somewhat easily add more. There is an extensive list of game settings available on the Construction Set Wiki. When adding a setting change, check the setting's type and whether there is additional information about it on the wiki. Do note that, according to the wiki, changing certain game settings can cause issues.

The name of the mod is like that because I searched my dictionary for something that fits 'settings' and does not sound too stupid. So, at least 'sensible' fits 'settings'. And hopefully it does not sound overly stupid.... It is the 'settings' part that describes the mod's function, after all... I think.

Requirements

  • Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE)
  • Punchinello

The mod could work with, for example, Nehrim, as well. Has not been tested with it, though.

Installation & Removal

To install this mod, a mod manager would be recommended. Uninstallation is not supported.

Compatibility

The mod might cause odd 'switching' of game setting values with other mods that also use scripts to change setting values if both mods overwrite the same value over and over. The mod might also cause issues with mods that require certain game setting values to be set to specific values, if changing such setting values.

Known Issues & Bugs

See the bugs section of the mod page for bugs. The bugs section tab is right next to the comments section tab. Should you find any bugs or something else that clearly should not be there, do be so kind as to report it in the bugs section. It might also be a good idea for people considering whether to use this mod to see what bugs have been reported.
