DESCRIPTION:

Normally, the player may pick locks and search containers and bodies to their leisure while in combat. No more -- with this mod, such activities are disabled when you are fighting. You may still open locked doors if you possess the key to the door.

You may also activate an unconscious essential actor to search them. You may take whatever you like, although it will be considered stolen, and you’d better be quick -- after an amount of time (determined by your fEssentialDeathTime game setting), they will get back up and accuse you of picking their pocket, with appropriate consequences.

Whenever you activate an unconscious essential actor, in addition to being allowed to search them, you may wake them up or choose to end their life.

Please peruse the included .ini file, which allows you to customize the mod (such as allowing looting in combat but not lockpicking, or not showing messages).

REQUIREMENTS:

A working copy of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and the Oblivion Script Extender.

INSTALLATION:

Place the contents of the .7z file in your "Data" folder, which is usually located under Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion.

The ReadMe document is not required for the mod to run -- you may keep it or discard it.

UNINSTALLATION:

Delete the included .esp file and .ini file.

UPDATING:

Replace all older files with newer versions. If in doubt, replace all mod files with the contents of the latest uploaded archive.

No in-game configuration is necessary.

BUGS:

Due to scripting limitations, if an essential NPC whose inventory you were perusing wakes up, and if you are both members of the same guild and said guild expels members for theft, you will not be penalized beyond a fine. Do note that if you are caught taking items from an unconscious NPC, you will be expelled.

On occasion, when activating an essential NPC who has just entered the area, the menu for looting an unconscious actor may appear. This is due to an imperfect method of detecting whether or not an NPC is unconscious -- you may simply close the menu by using the "do nothing" option.

COMPATIBILITY:

This should be compatible with practically any mod.
