About this mod

Hi-ish-Res ground/terrain retex inspired by original vanilla textures.
Just my playground. Nice visual impact but not an official release yet, as it's still in slow, leisurely development.

Permissions and credits

What is this obscure mod anyway?
This is a major retex project (work in slow, leisurely progress) I started a long time ago - and which will certainly take some more time to see completion as I add more and more textures that keep vanilla flavour, but are more suitable to the modern times. For the time being I'm treating it as my playground for landscape texturing experiments. It's not an official release yet, as it's still in relaxed, unhurried development, and some, especially older textures are likely to be altered anyway. But what is already here makes my game look really nice (if I say so). So I thought I'll upload these textures every time I come up with some new ones. If you're feeling adventurous, or just want to see some new textures on the ground while you roam Cyrodiil, you're more than welcome to try them out. I'm mainly looking forward to your honest opinion about these textures. If you don't like them, feel free to let me know what I should change. If you do like them, maybe you could upload a screenie or two?

System requirements
My ancient, crappy laptop - Intel Core i3 370M @ 2.40GHz, RAM 4GB DDR3, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 545v 1GB - obviously notices the difference, but heroically bears the load. I'm sure most of you have good quality rigs, so no sweat.

Many images above are quite outdated, but general spirit remains. New screenies coming at some point.

Installation
Simply unpack in a safe place, compare file structure with vanilla, backup all the vanilla files that you want to keep and copy the modded folders to your Oblivion directory, overwriting files when prompted. The main part is in folder 02 Watch Your Step. If you want to try Detailed Terrain shaders (at some stage all of these landscape terrains will support DT shaders, although will not be dependent on them). If you want them, you need to copy them to your Shaders folder. I've also included DT original textures if you want to see what these shaders are capable of (they were included in the original DT mod as examples, and are basically adapted variants of Quarl's III textures, so you can try them too, (just make sure you don't overwrite my new ones - those are much older. Basically, know what you're doing...) Originally it was packaged as obmm file, and for people who don't use that manager it wasn't quite obvious how to repack it. I've repacked it to be Wrye Bash-friendly. Detailed Terrain has been long abandoned and contacting the author is virtually impossible, but if they ever wish for me to remove it from here, I'll do it a.s.a.p.

...OR, PREFERABLY...
just use Wrye Bash (which will automatically back up your files for you and makes installation/uninstallation a quick, painless process). Tick the parts you want and install.

Serving suggestions
For weather and visuals I use Cinematic ENB, Oblivion Reloaded, and All Natural. I know what these textures look like under these conditions, but your suggestions are still welcome if you use the same set. I'm even more curious how it fares along other graphic environment.

Acknowledgements
This section is probably outdated because these days I rely mainly on my own photos. However, I'm sure a few traces of other people's photos still are present in the older textures, so for now I'm leaving these credits just in case. I'll gradually remake all textures, though, so that they are based entirely on my own images.

I also used a couple of Lougian's textures, which I modified and added normal maps.

I'd like to thank all the authors whose images helped me create this mod.

I dedicate this ongoing project to discovery1 without whose awesome images here on nexus I might have missed many wonderful places in Tamriel (like Ubanga). I miss you, mate.
