Announcing Guild Advancement v 1.7!

Complete more quests and improve your skills in order to advance through the ranks of Cyrodiil’s Guilds. Never again shall a novice spellcaster become Arch-mage of Cyrodiil nor the Fighters Guild be led by a soft-knuckled namby-pamby.

What is it?

One of the quirks of Oblivion is that it's possible to become the Arch-mage of Cyrodiil without ever casting a single spell or head of the Fighters Guild with novice combat skills.

You will now need to complete about 3 times as many quests to finish the Mages Guild & Fighters Guild Quest lines, and meet minimum standards in certain skills.

So it’s like Choices & Consequences?

"Choices & Consequences" is a wonderful mod. I've used it for quite some time and still recommend it. However, it does have some bugs and some well-documented conflicts with other popular mods. It's also a mod that's bloated; either things that were never fully put in, or taken out, or intended for something else, etc. And finally, it's a mod that's unlikely to ever receive an update.

To me, all this meant there was a niche to be filled with something lighter, less prone to conflict and hopefully without bugs. So I started from the ground up to create a simpler, leaner alternative.

The skill requirements are almost (but not quite) identical to C&C’s. But there are no exams, etc. Certifications are handled through dialog options, 2 journal quests, and a single script. C&C’s faction reputation system has been replaced by more quests. These quests come from the David Brasher mods (Fighters Guild Quests & Mages Guild Quests) that are required. You’ll get credit for each side quest you complete, and will need to complete side quests for each guild in order to advance in rank.

The result should be a much longer questline, where guilds promote members who possess the skills they value. This should be accomplished in a much leaner and less conflict-prone fashion than C&C’s system, I hope.

What are the Details?

Well, they’re in the readme. Click on the readme button.

Requirements:

Fighters Guild Quests v1.6 or higher
Mages Guild Quests v1.7 or higher
Recommended for new characters, or ones who haven’t joined any of the guilds (Fighters, Mages, Dark Brotherhood), but it will still work with existing characters. YMMV.

Also consider my main quest mod Time Enough At Last for similar enhancement of the main quest line, because boy does it need it.
