About this mod

A fairly high resolution texture replacement for all (except for snowy region) trees, grass, shrubs and tiling grass. Comes in both gaudy and bright tones as well as Vanilla-esque desaturated ones. Also has medium res options.

Permissions and credits
*EDIT: This project is now abandoned in favour of the new L&G Mod: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41118

I will not be updating this one again. Many thanks to everyone for the support and feedback and for using the mod :) *

This modification will replace all your tiling grass, long grass, shrubs and tree textures with higher resolution and decidedly colourful new ones.

*EDIT* Just to make it clear, if anyone wants to use the textures from this mod for their own files, or to re-work them, etc, please go for it. No permission necessary. Do what you like with them. The only texture that you'd require permission to use is the pine trees, since they're the work of Mikal33.Every else is yours to do with as you wish. Credit would be nice, but it's not vital.

*Special Thanks to Ares1 for making all the OMOD versions. If not for Ares1, there wouldn't be any on offer. The input is hugely appreciated :) 3 *

*EDIT...Alright, maybe that stupid desaturated mess of Boring colours is starting to grow on me...a little. Excuse the venomous comments about it below. I doubt I'll actually choose to play much with it...but it isn't so bad after all. Just hard to get used to since the whole point of the L&G mods was to escape dull colours. But even I have to admit the Boring version isn't as boring as Vanilla...Hmmm.*

I do have to apologise in advance for any flaws that might have slipped through. Also must make it clear that this modification is FAR from perfect, but it is the best I can do at this point in time. If you want perfection, go for QTP. I'm strictly a layman. You'll find a few kinks and quirky elements in the description of the mod and the file names. Can't take myself too seriously - especially when I'm nutty enough to create variations that I don't even like. If you can tolerate flaws and oddities, by all means read on and try out the mod.

Please be warned, nearly all the foliage suffers from the serious condition of Jumboitis. At present a cure is unavailable. You want things perfectly scaled? Then run for your life while you still can and don't look back. Everything is too big. Just think of it as Oblivion Flora and Fauna on steroids.

Also bear in mind that I'm not chasing any sort of realism with this mod. It's pure fantasy. If you want realism, please stick with casting spells and riding unicorns in Vanilla Oblivion.

There are two resolutions on offer for each colour variation of the mod:

The High Res versions are (mostly) triple the resolution of Vanilla textures. 2048x2048. And that includes the long grasses which are 2048x1024.

The Medium Res version has textures that are double those of Vanilla Oblivion - mostly 1024x1024. The long grasses are 1024x512. Despite not being as crisp as the high res version, the textures come up pretty nicely and they're certainly infinitely sharper and better quality than Vanilla ones.

It doesn't look like that much of a difference in the comparison pics between the two versions, but the high res one is sharper. If you can run it, I highly recommend it.

The saturation terms are defined as follows:

Heavily saturated = Make My Eyes Bleed.
Moderately Saturated = Mmm Colourful!
Soft / Duller Saturation = Boring, Bland, Vanilla-esque.

The regions are a bit more unique than my previous L&G, but there's still a very uniform gaudiness to the whole map.

This mod is a reflection of my taste, so it will always be heavily biased.

Still, despite my bias, you will find an Autumnal region east of Chorrol, a frenzy of white blossom trees and Forget-Me-Nots in the far south east swamps, blazing yellow gorse grass and deep purple flowers in the Colovian Highlands, a carpet of daffodils and yellow blossoms in the Gold Coast, red poppies and apple trees in the West Weald, and plenty of pink blossoms in and around Cheydinal.

Most regions have at least a few unique treats.

All I can say is I've done my best with this mod. The pines are thanks to Mikal33. I've never been able to make them and his beautiful textures have been a life saver. The Autumnal Maples are courtesy of some photographs by the very generous Hauteecolerider who went out especially to do them for me.

The rest of the textures I made from photographs of flora and fauna found with a lot of Google image searches. They're the first ones I've ever made. I do NOT take any credit for the photographs themselves that they were derived from. But I do take credit (or blame) for the resulting textures.

I could have gone higher than 2048x2048, but honestly I can't see the point. You can put your face in the foliage and practically smell the flowers for most of them. Any more is a waste of space and overkill. I'm on a very limited internet plan, so I don't have data to waste on obscenely over-sized mods. If you want higher res than what there is here, I'm afraid you'll have to make your own.

As far as I know no one else has made high resolution trees like these. (If someone else had, they'd undoubtedly be scaled right and not as damnably flawed as mine are.) Until someone does get around to it though, this is...hmmm....pretty much it.

One other small detail: Not only is the snowy region still Vanilla, but the harvestable crops - while being recoloured to suit the mod - are also Vanilla res. The seaweed is Vanilla res as well. (I actually didn't mean to leave that texture in, was going to just leave the underwater grass all Vanilla, but it slipped through and I'm damned if I'm uploading it all again just to fix that. If you don't like the seaweed, delete all the textures found in the plants subfolder with names like seagrass and seaweed. Simple.)

I'm offering an extra file of Vanilla res long grasses for those who find the higher res grasses to be too much of a burden on their performance. (Again, we're only talking about people like myself with ancient pc's.) If you use them with the Medium Res version, you should get a performance akin to my old L&G mod - i.e. not much worse than Vanilla Oblivion.

Enjoy the mod!

REQUIREMENTS:
OBMM

----------------------------------------------------------

A synopsis of each file:

*Lush and Gaudy Floriana Requiem*
The most heavily saturated version of the mod. Insanely colourful. Only for those chasing a Sonic-The-Hedgehog-gone-spastic type look. 100% stand alone.
A medium resolution version is also on offer.

*Lush and Gaudy Floriana Requiem The Boring Vanilla One*
Hideously desaturated for those chasing a more vile and lifeless look for their Oblivion. I don't like it and I don't use it. If you want a lack of colour that lives up to the dowdy look of Vanilla Oblivion then by all means use the Boring Vanilla Version. 100% stand alone.
A medium resolution version is also on offer.

*Lush and Gaudy Floriana Requiem Emerald*
Moderately saturated. Emerald tones. The most green version. 100% stand alone.
A medium resolution version is also on offer.

*Lush and Gaudy Floriana Requiem The Compromise*
A moderately saturated version. Less saturated than Lush and Gaudy Floriana Requiem, but more saturated than the Boring Vanilla One. 100% stand alone.
A medium resolution version is also on offer.

*Vanilla Res Grass For The Desperate*
A pack of long grasses at Vanilla res for those who experience major performance issues with their long grasses. Contains colours to suit all the variations of the mod.

*Shivering Isles Floriana Requiem*
Heavily saturated. A stand alone texture pack for the Shivering Isles.
A medium res version is also on offer.

*Shivering Isles Floriana Requiem In Moderation*
Moderately saturated. Stand alone. A toned down version of the standard SI FR.
A medium res version is also on offer.

*Ferns For Glugg*
Some ferns to replace the shitty ones that come with the mod. They're still not brilliant, but a small step up.(I suppose if we look at it scientifically, shit could almost be considered a step up from absolute shit.) You can thank Glugg for this little addition :) They come in 4 colours of varying hue / saturation. Something to suit each version of the mod.

Quick Faq:

Which file to download? Whichever one you want. They're all stand alone. (Anything in the 'main' category is always stand alone. That will never change.) Pick whichever suits your taste and your specs.

High res = triple the resolution of Vanilla textures. 2048x2048 mostly.

Medium res = double the resolution of Vanilla textures. 1024x1024.

Yes, you can use this in conjunction with QTP or any other texture replacement. Just be sure to install this LAST / over the top.

How is this different from my old L&G mod? With the exception of the pine trees, these textures are all my own work. The high res versions are triple the resolution of Vanilla Oblivion and double the resolution which was found in my old L&G mod. They're better coloured and have a lot more variety and the quality overall is much greater than what I've done before.

I do NOT like the Boring Vanilla version. I made it for those who wanted the higher quality textures and who can actually tolerate the absolute dullness of Vanilla Oblivion. I'd sooner gouge out my own eyes than play with that under-saturated piece of insidious frippery I created. It's not my taste and I consider it scientifically unsanitary, insipid and damnably lifeless. Bah-humbug!

2048x2048. Might not seem that high compared to a lot of other mods and games, but stick your face in the foliage and I think you'll find no reason to complain that the resolution isn't enough. I don't do overkill for the sake of it.

High Res version can crash shonky older pc's (such as my own) with inadequate graphics cards and RAM. What - you ask - do you mean by older and shonky? I mean 6 years old, 2 gig of RAM, a low-end 512MB Graphics card and a tired processor. That is what I mean by ancient. I experience crashes, black and purple textures when I run the High Res version on the Large texture setting.

From start to finish, this mod took 12 days to complete, 12-19 hours a day/night.

Yes, many of the trees and flowers are jumbo in size. Why are they that way? Because I'm not good at scaling.

My LODs are still a real weak point. It's just a fact of life. Get used to it.

My grass normal maps stink. Can't make a normal map to save my life. (And, point of fact, had never made one until the day before the mod came out.) If anyone can do anything to help in that department (there's actually only two tiling grass textures used, so I only need 2 decent normal maps that I can use over and over) I'd greatly appreciate it. Got no idea how they work or how to make decent ones. It's a major weak point for me.

Some textures turned out better than others. At this point in time, it was the best I could do within my limited abilities. Just as the original L&G landscape mod was the best I could do at that point in time. Let's just put it this way: If I could do better than what you see here, don't you think I would?

The ferns stink. Tried a lot of textures, none truly worked out so they're a cruddy palm-ish style which is boring as bat shit. If I ever come up with a decent texture, I'll make a pack to replace the originals that come with the mod.

A lot of textures can seem a bit 'floaty'. I'm rotten with branches and that sort of thing.

Why do the apple trees have the leaves of a Hydrangea? Because the apple tree leaves went on strike and I'm sure you can stretch your imagination enough while you're off casting spells and closing Oblivion gates to believe in hybrids.

Why do the same types of leaves appear on so many of the different types of trees and shrubs? Because I made every new texture from scratch. And I made a hell of a lot more that didn't turn out or end up in the mod. I re-used what I could because it cut corners and I'd be insane by now if I hadn't.

Bruma and the Jerall Mountains are untouched. I don't like snow and I can't make a pine tree to save my life, let alone a snowy one.

The seaweed was unintentional. Accidentally let my personal Vanilla res choice slip through in the mod package. Not bothering to fix it now. Delete the seaweed textures if you don't like it.

Why is it called Floriana Requiem? Watch the Doctor Who episode The Seeds Of Doom and you'll find out. Taking the piss a bit.

Do NOT download the heavily saturated one if you don't like fantasy colours and extreme amounts of green and saturation.Use The Boring One instead.

Do NOT expect - in spite of the flowers - a mish-mash of grass types. There's a hell of a lot of the same green grass everywhere. That's my taste. I like a smooth, meadow-like carpet.

Why isn't it perfect? I'm not Qarl.

Why isn't it brilliant? I'm still not Qarl.

Why do my grass normal maps crash to the very depths of inadequacy? I'm not Bomret and I'm not Jarod.
