Description

This addon unequips any broken armor your character and npcs (including companions) are wearing, much like weapons already do by default. Optionally, it can replace broken armor by clothing if available in the inventory, giving the impression it was worn underneath the armor. All language versions of Oblivion and all mods modifying game setting messages, like 2nd to 1st person are supported by default. Read below for details on how to configure this addon.

When both My Voice Extender and Unequip Broken Armor are installed the player character will provide vocal information about his/her armor status. Download More Effective Enchantments to fix the effectiveness of the disintegrate armor enchantments, making them more useful. Optionally, there's also a Mass Decay spell and warhammer available for download.

No files will be replaced by installing this addon. It will however need OBSE (version 18 or higher) to function properly.

Also check out my other mods and leave feedback and/or endorsement if you like to support this addon. Thanks and enjoy!

Install

OMOD method: (recommended)
  • Start Oblivion Mod Manager
  • Click on "Create" to create a new OMOD
  • Click on "Add archive" and point to the downloaded (.7z) file
  • Click on "Create omod"
  • Double-click the name of the mod in the right-hand side of the OBMM screen
  • Answer the question(s) asked to customize it to your preferences

Non-OMOD version:
  • Extract the files to a temporary location
  • Copy files to (install folder)OblivionData
  • Start Oblivion Launcher, click 'Data Files', place a checkmark beside the .esp file
  • Optionally edit the .ini file to customize it to your preferences

Uninstall

OMOD version:
  • Start Oblivion Mod Manager
  • Double-click the name of the mod in the right-hand side of the OBMM screen and click Yes

Non-OMOD version:
  • Start Oblivion Launcher, click Data Files, uncheck the .esp file
  • Delete the Unequip Broken Armor esp and ini files in the Data folder

Configuration

Through OMOD configuration and editing the ini file there are several options available. The Unequip Broken Armor.ini file is located in the Data folder. These options are:

1. Replacing armor by clothing
By default broken armor of the player and npcs are replaced by clothing if available in the inventory. This option can be turned off.

2. Manual or automatic selection of player character's clothing
By default broken armor of the player character is replaced by any available clothing in the inventory. If you would like to choose what clothing is worn underneath the armor, select the manual clothing equipping option. To select what clothing is worn underneath the player character's armor, simply equip the clothing piece(s) and then the armor. A clothing item is not allowed to overlap multiple armor pieces however, as the game is unable to show part of a clothing item.

3. Chance to disintegrate armor
By default breaking armor is always unequipped and depending on the previous options, replaced by clothing. Turning on the armor disintegration option will add a chance of breaking armor being disintegrated. Any percentage from 0 to 100 is possible. As a precaution, items with the quest flag set and scripted items will never be disintegrated, but only unequipped. You will hear an audible alert, when an item is disintegrated. Only turn this option on if you don't mind losing items. You have been warned!
