Description

Dwemer Technology Part II, Dwemer Skyship is a player home plugin for TES IV, Oblivion.  It allows the player to control and own the Dwemer Skyship, the last one of the glorious Dwemer sky-fleet.  Upgraded, bugfixed, flyable.  Really.

Location

Abandoned Cave near the Cyrodiil-Morrowind border.

Details

Quest line starts from NPC spawning near you trying to sell you a book for 500 gold (you must have at least 500 gold in your pocket) which contains a key and quest that guides you to travel to the Abandoned Cave near the Cyrodiil-Morrowind border.

Features:
- 50+ completely new and custom-made meshes and several new textures
- A Small quest that might even lead you to ancient Dwemer locations
- Allows you to battle Dwemer centurions ;-)
- Fire Support, that makes the skyship attack every creature in the player's vicinity
- A Dwemer Parachute to jump down safely from great heights (new in 1.1, thanks to QQuix)
- Voice acting (new in 1.1 thanks to the Cyrodiil Upgrade Team), upgraded in 2.2
- Passenger Deck and follower support (new in 2.0)
- A remote control for the skyship (new in 2.0)
- A dwemer immortal follower (new in 2.0)
- A Flux Capacitor; this device makes it possible to travel the skyship anywhere (new in 2.2)
- The skyship can fly through the borders of Cyrodiil (new in 2.2)
- Many more improvements (new in 2.2)
- Lots of bugfixes in 3.0.0
- Followers automatically board onto the Passenger Deck before flying (new in 3.0.0)

Important

Retrieve any ingredients from the ingredient sorter and other stuff from the ship's storage rooms before upgrading from previous version.  You should do a clean install before upgrading.

Install

1. Activate it in your favorite mod manager.
2. Activate COBL in your favorite mod manager.  A minimalist version is included as an optional mod.

Uninstall

Deactivate it in mod manager.

Incompatibility

Probably with any mod that changes the Abandoned Cave, possible Chargen mod conflicts (since the quest starts like the official DLCs made by Bethesda, at the end of the Chargen quest).

Known Issues or Bugs

- If you get the "Can't turn port/starboard side any more" or "Obstacle in front/behind airship" messages but it looks like the ship could fly further in that direction try turning left/right moving up/down or forward/backward a bit.  Calling the skyship will fix this problem (until you fly too close to something again).  (First one deactivated for now.)
- I could not get rid of the green magic effect after sitting down in the chair to control the ship. I know what causes it, how to (?) disable it, but it simply won't go away.
- In certain angles the player character can become stuck between the wheel and the fence of the ship after getting up from the chair.  If this happens, you have the following options:
  • activate the wheel, turn the ship approximately 30 degrees left or right, then try again
  • use a teleport spell or fast travel somewhere, and call the ship
  • open up the console and temporarily disable collision
- Sometimes the player character can become stuck floating above the chair.  Same thing as before.
- If you set the skyship's altitude too close to the ground, it can cause malfunctions, ie. fast travel will not work correctly.  Calling the skyship will fix this problem.
- It is possible sometimes to "land" with the airship inside the ground.  Calling the skyship will fix this problem completely.
- If the player remains sitting after getting up from the chair fast travelling from the ship can be used to free the player.  (Seems to be fixed in v3.0.0.)
- If this plugin crashes Oblivion after install, check that you have COBL installed.
- Flying in backwards direction switches port/starboard side steering.

Changes from previous versions

10/29/2022 - version 3.0.0
- Corrected/re-recorded the missing audio files for the Dwemer Immortal.  Added some audio comments to him.
- Added a workaround so in case the Dwemer Immortal disappeares from the game you can still call the skyship (hopefully).
- Renamed the plugin file to Dwemer_Skyship.esp.  The game will complain about missing data if you want to continue your game saved with version 2.2.4 or earlier of this mod.  (You have to remove your stuff from the skyship before upgrading.  You also need to do a clean save.)
- Added alchemy sorter function from COBL again.  You will need "00 Cobl Core\Cobl Main.esm" (v172) or "01 StableCore\Cobl Main.esm" (v174) from here: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/21104 (Probably the meshes and textures folder too.)
- I've added a minimalist COBL (v172) mod in this release (optional).
- Corrected the "Dwemer Immortal turns invisible and flies up into the balloon before greeting the player" bug (more or less) at the end of the Dwemer Skyship quest.
- Improved remote control commands.
- Completely rewritten the 'Call fire support' feature because it stopped working.  Removed the spell because it still won't work (can only be used with the remote control from now on).
- You can call the Dwemer Immortal to the bridge so you don't have to search through the ship extensively to find him.
- Followers are automatically transported (the dwemers invented transporter beams from Star Trek, right? :) to the Passenger Deck before flying the skyship so they won't fall down anymore.  Consequently, the spells which were needed to make this happen in previous versions are removed.

11/08/2011 - version 2.2.4.
- Airshiptilting has been added.  Flying the Skyship feels a lot more realistic now.  (Thanks to NoxyGame)

12/05/2010 - version 2.2.2
- The immortal won't drop a marker rat out of the skyship if it is not necessary. :)
- I could track down and eliminate the bug which caused the player to stuck in the air, without a skyship. If that happens to you, press space. (Not the one "If the player remains sitting after getting up from the chair..." - if you trigger that bug, you should exit Oblivion and reload.)
- Successfully taught the followers how to you use the main doors of the skyship. I worked many hours but only one of them will follow the player at once. If more than one follower moves through the door at least one of them falls down. :(
- This is considered to be the final version of this plugin.

11/18/2010 - version 2.2.1
- The remote control won't work after the player drops or sells it
- Adjusting the ship's altitude or calling it won't increase the player's Illusion skill rapidly (changed the spells' school to Mysticism)
- The immortal will collect dead rats in the skyship
- Follower from ship spell sends followers to the main deck of the ship
- Leaving the skyship in Oblivion and reload a saved game causes it to disappear. This version handles this bug. Strange, but it is safe to leave the skyship in the Shivering Isles.

11/14/2010 - version 2.2
I had some time in the past two weeks for this mod. Here are the results:
- restarted the upgrades from version 1.1 (this way most of the bugs and possible conflicts are resolved)
- quest giver NPC won't appear until the player has enough money to buy
- re-added the dwemer immortal's repair ability, extended it to his personal equipment
- re-added the dwemer immortal's original body, face and right hand
- revised, optimized most of the scripts, added OBSE version check (hopefully flying will be much less buggy from now on)
- optimized the main quest (I still can't eliminate the immortal's jumper behaviour after he is defeated second time, so do not step too close to him)
- added a Flux Capacitor to the skyship; this device makes it possible to travel the skyship anywhere with the 'call skyship' spell, including planes of Oblivion
- Passenger Deck now fits better into skyship interior
- successfully got rid of the waiting/resting menu :)
- now the skyship can fly through the borders of Cyrodiil :)
- added functionality to the altimeter+levers on the bridge
- the emergency teleport mechanism is not needed anymore if sy wants to fly the skyship or call it
- added more hints for those players who can't figure out how to start flying
- the ship will still explode if you fly too close to something. However there is a dwemer parachute in the Captain's Cabin in case you want to jump off the ship...
- changed the immortal's follow/wait sounds, added a minor feature, dialogue, sounds
- added weapon range check to the 'Call fire support' mechanism, so the skyship won't fire at your enemies at Bravil when it's floating above Anvil :)
- the immortal will not be a member of an evil faction and he will be somewhat less aggressive once he agreed to serve the player. Thus he won't attack NPCs on sight.
- upgraded the skyship's doors so followers can come and go as well. The 'Follower from/to Ship' spells weren't effective enough, and sometimes followers forget to follow... But other times they work as intended.
- due to the large number of changes I strongly recommend a clean install

03/10/2010 - version 2.1
- Corrected the bug which sometimes caused serious damage to player without falling down from the ship after getting up from the chair (I hope :)
- After calling the ship and adjusting its altitude the fast travel function didn't work. Corrected with an instant teleport to the skyship. After that fast travel will work too.
- Successfully implemented the missing menu item into Remote Control's main menu. Call Fire Support now works from there too. :)
- The ship will not stuck if it hits something big (i.e. the Valus-mountains) without high enough speed to crash
- Minor improvements to the Passenger Deck

03/07/2010. - version 2
- Fixed 4 activators which should have been static objects
- Added a periscope to the bridge
- Combined with Zolo 2006's "Dwemer Skyship Flying" plugin, bugfixed, optimized scripts (as far as I could done it) so the player can really fly the skyship
- Minor improvements to the tapestries using Franc Kaos' "Paintings and Tapestries" mod
- Ingredients sorter changed to COBL's (mesh came from there anyway) You should recover all ingredients from those cupboards before upgrading to prevent item loss!
- Cannon deck upgraded :)
- Recorded missing audio file, added missing .lip files to the quest giver NPC (I almost had to reinstall Oblivion after that)
- Followers can be transported to and from the skyship using the appropriate spells, added a Passenger Deck
- Changed the Skyship Ring to Skyship Remote, added more functionality
- Corrected some typos
