The Pirate Isles
----------------
Created by Dark Soul
Edited by JNF

A few years ago Dark Soul released The Pirate Isles Beta which in my opinion was a fantastic mod. Sadly the mod was never updated, and through a little google hunting I found out that progress with the Mods development was going well and had several interesting additions. Unfortunately nothing was released and I've heard (but can't confirm, attempts to contact the author have failed) that the project was given up on. I decided to take the Beta Mod and make my own additions using related resources and techniques that have been made available since the original release. I am only adding to an already outstanding Mod and can only hope to do it justice.

DESCRIPTION
-----------

If your having difficulties see the Tips and Walkthrough.txt included.

If you've played with Dark Soul's you will already know a great

deal about this Mod. One of the main differences is that this

mod brings the Pirate Isles into the Tamriel world space

(visible by using the Map in the Options Folder, see the

included Optional - Readme.txt). This means you can travel to

the Islands using any of the many

sailing/flying/dragon/vehicle/whatever Mods, although this mod

does offer a "pilotable" ship and a few other vehicles (which I

won't mention) for you to travel around in, but only when you

have the fulfilled the requirements necessary to use them.

WARNING: The Ship doesn't have collision so you can sail right

through anything, so you'll have to be careful or you could end

up inside the Jerral Mountains! I tried many different ways of

detecting collision, but none were effective enough, and all of

them annoying. I decided to go without collision until there's

a better way to deal with it. I've included the collision

parameters in the script but they aren't active.

The Pirate Isles Mod gives you the opportunity to explore a few

new locations with Pirate and sea faring themes. There are

several new items of armour and clothing worn by the people who

inhabit these new locations and are available for you to wear

too.

You can choose to begin this mod in two ways:

1. You can travel to the Islands by using one of the other

vehicle Mods, or by swimming (it's a long way though), but this

will mean you miss out on a little quest that may be

worthwhile, and will be made unavailable by visiting the

locations in this way.

2.When you sleep in a safe location (same parameters as Lucien

Lachance has when he visits you to invite you to join the Dark

Brotherhood) for about 7 hours you will automatically be thrown

into the first quest and will end up at the Islands in good

time.

You can purchase your own Pirate Ship and (with the required

upgrades) sail it around wherever you like or use the "fast

Travel" type option to take your Ship to many locations

(including the Shivering Isles, "yes you can now sail around in

the Shivering Isles"). However, you should be careful as you

can damage your Ship to the point where it is un-seaworthy and

you will need the services of a Shipwright to repair your Ship.

Your Ship will need repairs every so often anyhow, but to keep

it Ship Shape for greater periods of time it's best to have a

First Mate and a full Crew.

You have the choice of a few different First Mates (one of

which has an interesting little side quest) and the choice of

many different Pirates willing to join your Crew.

You and your Salty Sea Dogs can raid the high Seas together

plundering Merchant Ships and battling with the Imperial Navy

or Ghost Ships, capture prisoners and sell them to Slavers.

There are several upgrades available for your Ship, talk to

Brogar Halfhand in Blackhorn Town; Cannons, Crows Nest, Cabin

themes and Refinements and a few other things! Some upgrades

are necessary in order to have access to other facilities and

upgrades.

When you go Pirating or if you use the "fast Travel" option

with the Ship you will have the option to rescue Castaways who

will offer you money for their rescue (and in

one instance valuable information), and the option to Parley

with other passing Ships to gain information which can

sometimes lead you to new things!!

The more Pirating you do the higher your Pirate Rating will go.

To check your rating read the Black Moon Log Book on the

Captain's Desk. Take it with you if you like (it also contains

other information, the condition of your Ship, how many crew

you have and the current charge of your Cannons).

Your Pirate rating does not effect your bounty or any other

vanilla Oblivion setting so you won't be arrested or hated for

being a fearsome Pirate Captain, but you may attract the

attention of Bounty Hunters!

As your Pirate rating rises you will gain access to other

options in this Mod. You can acquire your own upgradeable

Pirate Hideout, have other Ships and their Crews join your

fleet and share their raided booty with you.

There is a hidden Map aboard your Ship somewhere that will lead

you to a great Treasure. This is only for the most worthy, and

remember that not all Treasure is Gold.

There are two companions available who will become available as

you progress through the Mod.

You will only have access to the Shivering Isles once you have

been through the Gates of Madness, this is to avoid breaking

quests. The correct scripting to allow proper travel between

the two worlds has been implemented.

I'm sure there's more I could say but I think you should just

play it and find out for yourself. Let me know how you get on

with it in the comments. Have Fun!!

INSTALLATION
------------
Download to a separate location, copy and paste the contents of

the Data folder into your Oblivion/Data folder, check the boxes

next to aaaJNF-&-DS-Pirate-Isles-Beta.esp and MathFunctions.esm

and start the game.

Ensure your game conforms to everything listed in the

Requirements section below.

REQUIREMENTS
------------
416 patch

Shivering Isles

Borderless Cyrodiil or alter you ini file (because some of the new locations are outside the realms of Cyrodiil)

OBSE, always best to have the latest version

http://obse.silverlock.org

RECOMMENDED
-----------
Elys - Universal Silent Voice (this mod gives you time to read what NPC's are saying, although there is a little voice acting).

Volkar - Merged Maps (So you can see the position of the new locations on your map, although I'm including an updated copy of those Maps which show the actual islands etc added by this Mod)

CONFLICTS
---------
None that I've found, (Don't run it with the original Pirate Isles Beta of course)

I'm running over 200 mods from all over and have had no problems on two different systems. It has only been tested by me so their's always the chance that it may not like somebody's set up, but I hope not.

There are a few other resources I've used whose origin I'm unsure of. If you recognise someone's work which hasn't been stated here please let me know so that I can add their name here.

There are a lot of new things added by this Mod, no reasources have been altered in any way so overwriting files which you may already have won't be an issue.

PS. Because there are so many new things added there is the possibility that I've left something out of the downloaded folders. If this should happen please let me know and describe when and where your character found those nasty "Missing Mesh" markers or missing textures and I'll upload the required files in an update to fix it.
