What is Total Tamriel?
Total Tamriel is a modding base for TES IV: Oblivion. It provides a complete heightmap of Tamriel, which is largely identical with the lore maps and can be used for your own mods. It also includes complete generator profiles which can save you manually creating a fitting landscape.
This project is not meant to be a complete and perfect worldmap. I have intended it as a basis for other projects to build on. You may adjust it as far as you like.
The regions included in the main file, tamriel_40_res.esp, are:
- Black Marsh
- Morrowind, including the original Vvardenfell worldmap
- Skyrim
- High Rock
- Hammerfell

Valenwood, Elsweyr and Sumerset Isle are included in the addon file tamriel_40_res_sw.esp. Note: A few modders have reported bugs in the structure of the esp. I cannot guarantee that your mods will work if you use this file! The main file has been thoroughly tested and is completely safe to use.
The generator profiles are included in the tamriel_40.esp file. You will only need to load it ingame if you haven't deactivated the invisible borders in the Oblivion.ini.

Note: It is likely that there are some texture bugs and impassable regions in Total Tamriel. This was inevitable, because I would never have been able to finish this project otherwise. =) I leave the fine tuning of the heightmap to the modders who will use it. After all, they will have to adjust it to their own needs in any case.

What's new in Version 4?
- the original Vvardenfell heightmap, including ground textures, has been integrated.
- I integrated the eastern coast of Morrowind in version 4.1. Note: The complete LOD meshes for these regions are included, but I have not generated the textures. If any modder decides to use this region, he will have to regenerate it anyway. ;)
- The file structure has been overhauled. The resource files are now completely language independent. The only regional information, the region names, is included in the tamriel_40.esp and can easily be adjusted and/or translated.
- The addon file has been overhauled. The last generated objects have been removed and Sumerset Isle has been redone.
- Small changes in the generator profiles and the South West heightmap.

How can I create mods based on Total Tamriel?
Modding with Total tamriel is fairly straightforward. You only have to load one of the resource files in the CS (not as active file!) and save all changes to the worldmap in a seperate plugin file. Your created plugin must be loaded after Total Tamriel; otherwise, the heightmap changes will not be applied. Important: Loading both resource files at the same time in the CS can lead to heightmap bugs!
If you can't see the changes ingame, you may have to set the resource file you used as master file via Wrye Bash.

What can I do with the generator profiles?
With the profiles included in the file tamriel_40.esp you can generate fitting landscapes for your exteriors without much of an effort. Just open the Region Editor (World -> Regions) in the CS, select your cell and a generator profile. Then right-click your cell and go to "Generate Objects for this cell".

Before you do this, however, you should create your exterior including all world objects (apart from trees and rocks) and heightmap changes. If you do any changes to the ground textures BEFORE you generate the landscape, they will be overwritten!
In any case, this process saves you the placement of textures, plants and rocks. :)

Do I need Shivering Isles to use Total Tamriel?
Yes and no. In Black Marsh and Elsweyr I used some textures from SI, which won't show up in Vanilla Oblivion. But you can easily adjust the profiles to get rid of them if you do not have SI.

Is there a LOD?
Yes. This package includes a complete LOD of Tamriel. So, if you make any changes, you will only have to regenerate parts of it.

Are there legal issues concerning the Vvardenfell heightmap, which was taken from TES III?
I already contacted GStaff, the Bethsoft community manager, concerning this point. According to him, the mod is not going to be policed as long as it is kept out of the official Bethsoft forums.
Note: I did NOT use Morroblivion to export the heightmap, and I did not touch any of the original NIF files; this was the main legal issue with MO. The only Morrowind data I used are the heightmap and a texture placement map from the Morrowind.esm (NO original textures).
