We only support Wrye Bash 304 or higher.

Important: Wrye Bash's developers have been MIA for quite some time due to various real life circumstances. As such, development slowed to a crawl with only a few modders that didn't have much experience with Python (in which Bash is written) trying to fix existing bugs. Starting with version 303 Wrye Bash is the product of these attempted bug fixes on top of what was done before the developers went MIA. As such, it is not a polished release.

If you are familiar with the Python programming language, please consider helping with development. Many of Wrye Bash's features are unique to it, and it needs fixes to outstanding bugs at the least to stay usable. Our bug tracker lists everything we're aware of at present.

What does Wrye Bash do?

  • It makes it safe to try out new mods because it will restore everything to the way it was when you uninstall a mod
  • It makes more mods compatible with each other by importing information from different mods into a "bashed patch"
  • It allows you to exceed the 255 mod threshold by automatically merging mods for you

Requirements and Installation:

I suggest looking here for the approproate version Latest Supported Visual C++ Downloads.  The previous link may have more up to date information but here are some direct links MSVC++ 2005 Redistributable Suite SP1, MSVC++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable, MSVC++ 2010 Redistributable Service Pack 1, MSVC++ 2012 Redistributable Update 3.

Short version: 
Just use the installer and install to the Oblivion folder! When you install dependencies, just install them to their default locations.
Long version: 

There are two versions available: the Python version and the Standalone version. They are functionally equivalent. Most people should run the Standalone version since it is slightly simpler (no external Python components to install). You don't need to install the Python version, however, you can if you want to be more involved with development or if you already have Python installed on your system for other reasons.
First, if you're using Windows XP, Wrye Bash needs the MSVC++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable with ATL Security Update installed, the x86 version. This is required for the custom 7z executable that Wrye Bash uses to run. Later versions of Windows already have this installed.
If you're using the Standalone version, the only other thing you need to install manually is the MSVC++ 2008 Redistributable.
If you are using the Python version, dependency installation will be handled automatically by the installer. However, if you want or need to do things manually:
Python 2.7.3
wxPython unicode for Python 2.7
comtypes 0.6.2
PyWin32 for Python 2.7

Other setups may work, but this is the only officially supported setup.
Python 3.x: NOT supported
Note that the 32-bit versions are required even if you are on a 64-bit operating system
  • For manual installations of either the Standalone or Python versions, extract the archive in your Oblivion game folder so that the Mopy directory appears in the Oblivion directory
  • For Python versions, run by double-clicking on Wrye Bash Launcher.pyw
  • For WBSA (Wrye Bash StandAlone), run by double-clicking on Wrye Bash.exe

Remember! In Windows Vista and up, don't install Oblivion in the Program Files folder due to User Account Control! See File Permissions.

What is Bash3k Pre-Alpha 1?
Bash3k is a complete overhaul/rewrite of Wrye Bash. Unlike the original Bash, Bash3k is designed to run on Python 3.2, make use of multiple threads, and support multiple games (TES3/TES4/TES5/FO3/FNV) with a single client. Of interest to the developers, Bash3k also reorganizes the codebase and cleans up all the accumulated cruft.

It is currently very early in development, and should not be used unless you are willing to encounter the occasional bug and hiccup.

Welcome to Bash3k Pre-Alpha 1.

Please be aware that this is an early release. You may want to hold off on trying this program if you are uncomfortable with the thought of bugs and the unlikely possibility of having to reinstall Skyrim.

Also, please forgive the messy install directory and manual ini edits. This is very much a work in progress and things will become more user friendly. Over time, Bash3k will gain all the features you expect from Wrye Bash and more.

To get started:
  • Extract Bash3k-PreAlpha1.zip to any directory. Bash no longer needs to be installed within the game directory.
  • Open Profilesprofile.ini and edit p_Directory to point to your Skyrim directory.
  • If you are using a pre-Vista operating system such as Windows XP, you will also need to update p_PluginList to point to the plugins.txt file that Skyrim uses to know which plugins to load.
  • Save and close profile.ini
  • Launch Bash3k Pre-Alpha 1 by running: Wrye Bash Launcher.exe

Usage notes:
  • Tabs can be rearranged by dragging the tab with the right mouse button. This is more of a demonstration than of actual use atm since the other tabs are disabled, and the tab order isn't retained.
  • Mods can be activated/deactivated by double-clicking the mod.
  • Mods can be rearranged by selecting the mod(s) and pressing Control-Up or Control-Down.
