About this mod

This changes the outfit of the Gray Fox to something I find more suitable. It\'s NOT armor anymore, because I think that a thief doesn\'t need armor (and the Gray Fox is marked as \"essential\" anyway). Also changes the Wanted posters and the Cowl of Nocturnal.

BETTER GRAY FOX

1. Description

This mod changes the outfit of the Gray Fox. In vanilla Oblivion, he is wearing Leather armor, which is neither gray nor something that's in any way useful for a thief.
In my opinion, a thief doesn't need any armor, because if he did need it, that would mean he has screwed up. Thieves are no fighters.
So with this mod, the Gray Fox doesn't wear Leather armor anymore. Instead, he wears a gray outfit, soft Leather boots (very silent) and a belt with a couple of pouches.

BUT that's not all! This mod ALSO changes the Cowl of Nocturnal to suit the new outfit. JDFan made a great new mesh that combines the hood mesh and the cowl mesh, and I gave them a cloth texture that matches the scarf of my new outfit. In my opinion, it looks really cool now - not like the sick mask of a psychopath, but like the elegant hood of a master thief.

BUT THAT'S STILL NOT ALL!!!
I also made new Wanted Posters that match the new Cowl of Nocturnal!!! I also tried to make them look like the picture was painted and not just a screenshot with a couple of effects applied to it. I don't think they have that kind of techniques in Cyrodiil.
I totally love that new poster, but actually it's only a small "bonus". I still hope you like it.

2. Installation

This mod comes in a rar archive. You can make an OMOD out of it, if you want to, or you can simply extract it to Oblivion/Data and say "Yes to all" when asked to overwrite files.

However, you might not want all parts of this mod, so it may be wise to extract it to a temporary folder first, and delete the things you don't want before you copy it to Oblivion/Data:
- If for some reason you don't want the new Wanted poster: The textures you need to delete are textures/menus/book/wantedposter.dds and textures/clutter/book/wantedposter.dds.
- If for some reason you don't want the new Cowl of Nocturnal: You only need to delete the folder meshes/armor/cowlofthegrayfox.
- If for some reason you don't want the Gray Fox's new outfit, you need to delete the folders meshes/clothes/Gray Fox and textures/clothes/Gray Fox. And you should delete the ESP, because all it does is put those clothes into the game.

3. Concerning the Plugin file:

Generally, this mod should be loaded after every mod that changes the Gray Fox's outfit if you want the current Gray Fox to wear my outfit.

Mods that probably (!) change the Gray Fox's inventory are for example overhaul mods like CUO, or clothing mods like New NPC Clothes or NPC Remodeling Project. Note that I do not know if they do that, I simply suggest loading my mod after mods like that. Since my mod doesn't change anything else in the game, I actually suggest putting it at the very end of the load order (or somewhere before the Bashed Patch, for Wrye Bash users).

I've tagged the ESP for Wrye Bash users with {Bash: Invent}, because it changes the inventory of the Gray Fox, obviously. It is recommended that you make use of this and use the Import Inventory function of the Bashed Patch.
In that case, GrayFoxOutfit.esp should be loaded BEFORE other mods that change the GF's inventory!
If the outfit doesn't appear on the Gray Fox (and he's wearing a different non-vanilla outfit), then one of the other Invent-tagged mods is putting an armor into the GF's inventory. If you disable it in the Bashed Patch import inventory part, you should be fine.

OOO/FCOM compatibility:
Turns out this mod is fully compatible with OOO/FCOM, because they only add a sword and a spell to the Gray Fox, and not any new armor.
If you use one of these, load mine BEFORE any of their plugins and use the Bashed Patch to import the inventory.

4. Where you can find the outfit:
- The Gray Fox is (hopefully) wearing it now
- I've put one set of clothing (not enchanted) on the chest at the end of the bed in Dareloth's House. I've also put a copy of the Cowl of Nocturnal there, which isn't enchanted either and also doesn't change your bounty and all.
- And of course be sure to check out the new Wanted Posters!

5. Credits

JDFan - Mesh of the Cowl of Nocturnal, glow and normal map. Without him, I wouldn't have started this mod, and he has been very helpful in the process, for which I am very grateful.

Ryu Doppler - Meshes of the Gray Shirt and the corresponding texture, which I simply edited a little bit. Without his permission to use his work, the outfit would only look half as good.

Fearabbit - Edited various textures and made all that other stuff that was necessary.

Trr Kah - Made a cool new icon for the Cowl and also made a new GND mesh that properly falls to the floor. Thank you very much for that!
