=================
SHORT DESCRIPTION
=================
Spellshields gives you an alternate way to cast these spells on yourself:
Resist Magic
Reflect Spell
Spell Absorption
Shield
Fire Shield
Frost Shield
Shock Shield

Set up any combination of these spells as your "Spellshield," then press and hold BLOCK to use it. The magicka cost depends on how powerful your spellshield is, and your spellshield consumes magicka only while you're blocking.

============
REQUIREMENTS
============
This mod requires Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE). This mod was compiled with OBSE 18, and it absolutely WILL NOT WORK with an earlier version of OBSE. You can download OBSE here: http://obse.silverlock.org/
I also suggest you make sure your Oblivion is patched to the latest version: http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm

==================
LONGER DESCRIPTION
==================
You learn spellshield magic from an NPC named Baccani in the Mystic Emporium in the Imperial City Market District.

Baccani sells the spells that give you the items you need to make your spellshield. To make a spellshield, you MUST purchase "Get Master Spellshield" and at least one of the "Get Shieldsegment" spell. All of the "Get Shieldsegment" spells are based on the standard defensive spells sold by Oblivion's stock spell merchants. (There are a couple exceptions: I moved Resist Magic from the Restoration school to the Mysticism school, and I changed the journeyman Fire Shield spell to conform to the journeyman Frost and Shock Shield spells.)

Cast the spells, and you receive the associated items. All of these items are slotless, weightless, and valueless. If you drop them, you can't pick them back up; you'll need to cast the spells again.

To use your spellshield, you MUST equip the Master Spellshield. You can add effects to your Master Spellshield by equipping shieldsegments. The enchantments on the shieldsegments tell you what effects they add, and how much magicka they'll cost to use. The enchantment on the Master Spellshield shows the cumulative effect of all the shieldsegments you've equipped, and how much magicka you'll consume per second while blocking. The magicka cost of the alteration-based effects (Shield, Fire/Frost/Shock Shield) will decrease as your skill in alteration increases. Same thing goes for the mysticism effects (Resist Magic, Reflect Spell, Spell Absorption).

Using your spellshield during combat will increase your alteration and/or mysticism skill.

spellshields2nofxpatch.esp is an optional file that will disable the effect shaders of Reflect Spell, Spell Absorption, Fire/Frost/Shock Shield, and Shield.

===========
INSPIRATION
===========
I am not fond of "passive" defense mechanics. In unmodded Oblivion, you cast a defensive spell on yourself and forget about it, which is quite lame, yet very common in this genre of games. I think magic defense should require timing and skill. This mod is just another approach to solving this problem. Plus it's kinda cool when you block an incoming spell and it actually makes a difference.

===============
POSSIBLE ISSUES
===============
As stated above, spellshields2nofxpatch.esp affects the effect shaders of Reflect Spell, Spell Absorption, Fire/Frost/Shock Shield, and Shield. I made this file because I don't like to see these effect shaders on my character, but the side effect is that it disables these effect shaders on all other actors as well. If any other mods change these shaders, they will conflict. Put this esp towards the end of your load order if these effect shaders are still showing.

As of version 2.1, the non-master spellshields are called shieldsegments, which makes all the images on TESNexus obsolete. Just pretend they say "shieldsegment" instead.
