About this mod

Ever wonder why all chests are safe? Why some might not be a trap? Then this mod is for you! It adds in 150 chests to be found throughout Cyrodiil that have a chance of not only being trapped, but becoming a blood-thirsty mimic ready to bite your head off!

Description
===========
Created by the Conjuror of some reknown, Caranen Inoril, the Mimic was going to be the next craze in home defense against thieves. A mixture of creatures souls and inanimate objects it could be anything, always there as your loyal guard dog. It would never sleep, it would never wander off. Think of the possibilities!

A thief comes in looking for your goods while your away at the annual Waking Day celebration at the castle, looking for the spot where your valuables have been stowed away. Spotting a chest he sneaks over to whisk away your wealth, only to have the chest bite his thieving hands off!

This... is how it was supposed to be. It started out fine, the Mimic's did as they were supposed to and crime dropped dramatically. But after just a few weeks the Mimic's seemed to start developing personalities of their own. Instead of being a loyal guard dog many started becoming savage beasts attacking even their owner if he tried to do anything with them! Eventually it came down to the guards to destroy them. While the guards went about searching for any lost Mimic's many former patron's of Inoril's became angry, a mob quickly ensued. Inoril was driven away, neither complete nor pieces of him have been seen to this day. Of course that doesn't help with my job of hunting these beasts down, they grow smarter and don't always attack. Leads me to wonder though, I keep finding more of the beasts, I wonder where they come from now?

Details
=======
This mod adds a custom creature to Oblivion, the Mimic. Using a new skeleton, mesh, and animations it is almost completely custom. The only thing reused is the chest textures, they are vanilla Beth.

The Mimics are added into the game in about 80 chests spread out throughout vanilla dungeons. Each of these chests have a chance of spawning a mimic or simply containing loot. There is also a quest attached with a mimic reward, this is a creature that can take basic commands, from holding your loot to following you.

To start the quest look for a cave north of Chorrol, east of a Deadric shrine.

There is also a seperate resource available for the mimic creature that is a seperate download.

Incompatibility
===============
This mod will be incompatible with any mods that change the wilderness cell -19, 36
This mod is likely incompatible with the Unique Landscape Cloud Top Mountain as -19, 36 is on the top end of of modified landscape.
This mod also hand places chests throughout many vanilla cells, some of these chests can possibly overlap with any other mods that do the same. Examples are the large overhaul mods: OOO, Warcry, etc. While not an incompatibility that will damage anything. The occasional overlapping chest may look odd.

Known Issues or Bugs
====================
Due to a limitation of the Oblivion engine any creature that is shorter then it wide will default to a horse shaped hitbox whether that fits the creature or not. Due to this the hitbox for mimics is slightly off, projectiles will go through the lower part of the chest while they will hit the creature if aiming for the top of the chest. There is no known workaround for this.

Licensing/Legal
===============
As a resource this can be used in mods without asking permission. All I ask is credit is given to me for doing the work of creating this. If the spawn scripts are used then both DragoonWraith and WillieSea need to be credited as they created the scripts and not I.
