Description
===========
This mod adds playable dryads to the game, both in female and male form (yes, there are male dryads). These creatures are protectors and caretakers of the wild, friendly to most animals, and possessing a strong bond with the forces of Nature.

Note: This mod does not attempt to be faithful to lore, myth, or anything else. This is simply my interpretation of a Nature-based race.

Details (read carefully!)
=========================
Dryads have the following stats (males and females are identical):
STR 30
INT 50
WIL 40
AGL 35
SPD 40
END 35
PER 40
LUC 50

They get the following skill bonuses:
Alchemy +10
Mysticism +5
Illusion +5
Destruction +5
Sneak +10
Marksman +5
Acrobatics +5

Dryads have a number of special abilities and powers, which you should familiarize yourself with before attempting to play one:

1. Nature's Child - Dryads have a 50% resistance to poison, as well as a bonus of +50 Magicka, thanks to their naturally magical nature.

2. Barkskin - Dryads are resistant to physical harm, having a constant 10% shield and a 20% resistance to normal weapons, but suffering a 50% weakness to fire.

3. Take Root - Once per day, the dryad may root herself, drawing sustenance from the earth. For 60 seconds the Dryad has +65% shield and restores 3 health per scond. During this time, however, the dryad is immobilized and cannot move.

4. Entangle - Once per day, the dryad may cause poisonous vines to grow up from the ground and entangle a single target. For 30 seconds, that target is immobilized (unless exceptionally strong) and takes poison damage from the vines. This spell may only be cast outdoors.

5. Animal Friendship - The dryad may mingle freely with most wild animals and woodland creatures, including deer, wolves, bears, boars, moutain lions, spriggans, and more. Such creatures will neither attack nor run away from the dryad.

6. Dryad's Blessing - The dryad may extend this gift of Animal Friendship (or take it away!) to other people or creatures by touching them. This works like a toggle - cast it once to grant and cast it again to take it away. Intended primarily for use with companion/partner mods.

7. Regrowth - The dryad may channel her life force into plants, causing harvested plants to regrow instantly. This is a touch range spell that will cost the dryad 25 Magicka and 25% of her base health, but instantly restores almost any harvested plant to its full grown state (compatible with Harvest Flora type mods as well).

8. Deerform - The dryad may shapechange at will into the form of a deer. Female dryads turn into a doe, and male dryads into a buck. You cannot fight or cast spells in deer form, but you will move quickly. To transform, just cast the spell; to transform back, use your "Activate" key (space button by default). To move in deerform, you "steer" as if you were riding a horse. (due to various limitations of the game, this ability is largely useful only as a cute novelty or as a form of travel similar to riding a horse) While in deer form, fast travel is disabled. This spell may only be cast outdoors.

9. Nature's Spirit - Dryads may summon the Spirit of Nature to come to their aid. This aid comes in the form of a ghostly stag that will accompany you and defend you against enemies. This stag may not be summoned indoors (or in a plane of Oblivion), and if taken indoors, it will begin to lose health and eventually die. Summoning the stag costs 20% of your base health, and while it is summoned you will suffer a constant drain on your fatigue. If your fatigue drops too low, the stag will be unsummoned automatically. The stag is a leveled creature. It may be summoned as often as desired. Most creatures that are friendly to the dryad are also friendly to the stag.

Special notes regarding Dryad Powers:
=====================================
Issues with Animal Friendship:
1. With mods that make major changes or additions to wildlife, the dryad's Animal Friendship may not always apply properly. A compatibility esp is provided to address this issue with MMM, but for other mods, you may occasionally experience an unfriendly natural animal. Consider it rabid or something. ;)

Issues with Entangle:
1. If you cast the spell and miss your target, you will still have a 30-second timer icon showing with your "active magic effects" icons.

Issues with Nature's Spirit:
1. The Spirit of Nature may not always react appropriately to creatures and NPCs added by other mods, and vice-versa.
2. The Spirit of Nature sometimes gets distracted by a particularly tasty bit of grass and will happily munch away while you fight for your life against a band of marauders. If this happens, the best way to deal with it is to try to maneuver so the Spirit is between you and the enemy, to force it to get involved.
3. A fake timer set for 999 seconds is added when you summon Nature's Spirit. This is only provided to give you a visual reminder (magic effect icon) that you have an active summons. Nothing bad will happen after 999 seconds. If the spell is canceled for any reason beforehand, the timer will stop.
4. The Spirit is fairly intelligent and follows the player well. However, it is known to rarely get a wild hair and run off in pursuit of something, or to prefer snacking on grass to following you. Because of this, a check has been built in so that if there is too much distance between you, the Spirit will teleport to you. Fortunately, because it is a spirit and not an actual animal, this isn't necessarily weird. ;)

Issues with Deerform:
1. The deerform ability sometimes does flaky things, like summon a deer instead of transform you into one. This is quite rare, however, and recasting the spell generally sorts it out. Usually this is caused by #2 below:
2. Trying to cast deerform while moving fast or standing on a steep slope may prevent the transformation from completing.
3. NPCs will talk to you and otherwise react normally to you when you are in deer form.
4. When running in deer form, the camera is quite bouncy and may induce motion sickness. No workaround has been found for this.
5. Casting deer form immediately after loading a game before doing any other actions has been shown to commonly cause a CTD. Do something else first.

Install
=======
1. Extract the files to a temporary location.
2. Examine the folder structure and make corrections where necessary.
3. Copy files to (install folder)\Oblivion\Data\
4. Start Oblivion Launcher, click 'Data Files', place a checkmark beside the "Luchaire's Dryad Race.esp" file.

Martigen's Monster Mod:
An additional optional .esp is included for compatibility with Mart's Monster Mod 3.5.5b5. Using "Luchaire's Dryad Race for MMM.esp" extends the Dryad's Animal Friendship ability to many of the "natural" wild animals included in MMM. This is not completely foolproof, because of the way MMM works (I could make it that way by editing the MMM scripts, but as MMM is not my mod, I am not willing to do that), but you shouldn't run into very many hostile animals. Use in place of "Luchaire's Dryad Race.esp" - do NOT use both esp's at the same time! "Luchaire's Dryad Race for MMM.esp" must load after all other MMM plugins.

To install the non-OBSE version, install full mod as above, then download the separate non-OBSE plugin file and use it in place of "Luchaire's Dryad Race.esp".

Regarding body mods:
The vanilla body is not supported by this mod. Sorry.

Fantasy Figures Female and Robert's Male body textures are installed by default. To install textures for Exnem's Eyecandy or Robert's Female, copy the files from the appropriately named extra folder and put them in "data\textures\characters\dryad\female\" overwriting when prompted. Simple as that.

To install BAB textures, download the separate BAB texture archive, and follow the same instructions as for Exnem's/Robert's.

An alternate set of textures is also included for the FF female and Robert's male bodies. This texture is a wood-grained sort of body texture, to give your dryad a bit more of a wild look. Because of the nature of the patterns, this texture does show seams more readily than the normal dryad texture. This is unavoidable. Use it if you like it, ignore it if you don't. To use it, copy the files from the alternate texture folder to "data\textures\characters\dryad\" overwriting when prompted.

Uninstall
=========
1. Start Oblivion Launcher, click Data Files, uncheck the Dryad Race.esp file.
2. Delete the files/folders associated with the mod:

Oblivion\Data\Meshes\characters\hair\dryad
Oblivion\Data\Meshes\creatures\dryaddeer
Oblivion\Data\Textures\characters\dryad
Oblivion\Data\Textures\characters\eyes\dryad

Incompatibility
===============
This mod is probably incompatible with any other mod that adds a "dryad" race. Otherwise, it should have no specific incompatibilities (it has been thoroughly beta tested without conflict issues, and tested on my own game with nearly 200 mods large and small). Mods that make significant changes to wildlife, such as MMM, OOO, and FCOM, may have minor, non-game-breaking issues (see "Issues with Animal Friendship" above) but are not incompatible.

None known beyond the issues already mentioned above.
