About this mod

Mystic Elf NPCs for Companion Share & Recruit

Permissions and credits
Arx Mystic Elf NPCs for Companion Share & Recruit.

This mod adds four of Ren's Mystic Elves to Cyrodiil as npcs that can be recruited as companions with Companion Share & Recruit (batteries not included). They have their own routines and if you buy the house in their town they'll move in, whether you like it or not. If you don't want them living there then take their keys away - if you can bear to be so selfish and cruel.

Celevon (Sind. Silver)

Conflicts:

The first stage of the quests for the houses in the Imperial City and Chorrol have been altered, so any mod that alters those two quests stages may conflict.

Any mod that changes the names of the door teleporters of the IC or Chorrol houses will mess up the npc AI. Then they won't be able to find your house, and will spend their nights wandering aimlessly, sobbing and wringing their hands in despair. Be it on your head.

No cells have been harmed in the making of this mod.

Requirements:

Oblivion with the latest patch.

Ren's Beauty Pack Full - the esp should be named exactly _Ren_BeautyPack_full.esp - including the underscores. If you're using another version or a combined mod like Beautiful People or Rens and Soyas then you may need to use Wrye Bash or TES4Gecko to change the dependency of the Arx ME NPCs 1.0.esp to the version of Ren's that you have. It's a very simple thing to do once you figure out how to install the utilities and get them running. I can't guarantee that the hair and eyes will be correct though.

OBSE is not required for this mod, but it is for Companion Share & Recruit, and this mod would be merely decorative without that.

You will also find it helpful to install a mod that provides sleeping arrangements for at least two at the IC Waterfront Shack.

Recommendations:

A body replacer such as Eshme's or BABs.
A video card that can handle HDR and high settings for mip map quality and anisotropic filtering.

Installation:

Unzip the archive to your Oblivion directory, or preferably, use OBMM to install it. I haven't included an OBMM-ready version because I think they suck.

Uninstallation: Use OBMM to disable and then delete it. Or if you're an unusually recalcitrant luddite, delete the ARx ME NPCs esp and the folder called (unsurprisingly) Arx ME NPCs 1.0.esp in your Oblivion/Data/Textures/Faces folder.

Thanks:
*Thanks to Ren for her wonderful mystic elf race.*
Bethesda for making a bad PC port of a dumb-as-a-rock console game and having the belated decency to make it moddable into something that isn't entirely appalling.
Also, thanks to those posters on various forums that were helpful.
Everyone that b^%&%ed and moaned and wallowed in their sadly misplaced self-importance can kiss my shiny white buttocks.

FAQ:

What's an esp?
It's a venomous snake with a New Zealand accent.

What do I do with it?
Install it, of course.

Where are the hooters?
Sorry, try one of the glamazon body mods.

Why do they all have sneak?
Because they would be useless to stealth players without it.

Why isn't Celevon as pretty as the others?
Berzerkers are much too busy driving their enemies before them and hearing the squelching sounds of the men's viscera being ground underfoot to bother with all that fluffy sex poodle stuff. She's your best fighter. Try to be more appreciative, and compliment her on her gore spattered boots. Often, if you know what's good for you.

Eleniel is too skinny!
Of course she is. She's been training in the Bloodworks all night, every night, and living on apples filched from the Bloated Float. Take her somewhere nice and feed her up.

Olwen looks like a racoon at night!
Yeah. I can't help that. That's what darker complexions with eye makeup look like in dark environments, unfortunately. I tried several approaches to balancing it out, but none of them worked. Sorry.

What's a Sind.?
Sindarin. Tolkien elvish. Most if not all Altmer and Bosmer in Cyrodill are named in Sindarin. Carwen means house maiden, Methredhel end of sowing maiden, Thoronir eagle man and Rindir wanderer, to name a few. Yes, I remember that stuff. Sad, isn't it.

Your Sindarin is appalling! You've split your infinitives, dangled your participles all over the place and left several verbs entirely unconjugated! Heresy!
Sorry. I don't actually understand any of it it. I just read it off a chart on a website.

They're all grinning at me like lunatics!
Apparently that's Bethesda's idea of a smile. If you ignore them they'll get grumpy and pout, which is worth the wait. There's not much I can do about it short of making their faces look like they've just swallowed a can of drain cleaner. I settled for trying to make them look presentable when they're not grimacing at me.

They're all blotchy like they've been rolling in crayon!
Try playing with anisotropic filtering, setting mip mapping to highest quality and enabling HDR. It worked for me.

I enabled HDR and my eyes are glued shut from the glare off Miriel's bum!
The default HDR settings are, like everything else Bethesda does, utterly devoid of subtlety. There are several guides on the net that deal with tweaking the Oblivion.ini file to make Cyrodiil look somewhat less like anime on acid.

The classes are boring!
So skip them and sniff glue with what passes for your friends. That's what I did, and look where it got me.

Why did you...?
Because I wanted to. I made it the way I wanted it, within my limited capabilities and level of commitment. If you want it some other way then make your own or ask someone else (not me) to do it.

You must be a pervert!
Yes, I am. Thanks for noticing. It's always good to be recognised in one's field.

Addendum:

The progenetor of this mod originally contained two npcs of each gender. However, it was lost in a freak OBMM accident. Since I couldn't bear another day of having two guys looking at me with that goofy, adoring grin that CS&R endows them with, they had to go. Sorry.

You can whine at me on the Bethesda or CanadianIce forums, but I probably won't read it unless it's brimming with unqualified praise. I'm like that.
