Grey Elf 1.0, by WestRonin/StrangeDunmer/DarkHero (my respective handles on a number of TES related forums, sorry for any confusion this may cause. I like variety.)

This is a simple race mod, a variation on the Dunmer/Dark Elf, and duplicates the majority of the information from that race in the CS, other than some tweaks to attributes, skills, and racial powers...not to mention the most important difference: this race uses the male head mesh from Throttlekitty's "Hot Heads" modder resource pack. It is a more gaunt and angular face than the default mesh, and as such I felt that it was perfect for a race like this.

I decided that the Grey Elves (so dubbed by the Imperials who encountered them) were close kin to the Dunmer, perhaps even a lost tribe thereof, which has diverged slightly from the norm. Having retreated for a time to subterranean caverns, they have developed keen nightvision similar to the Khajiit (copied the Khajiit's racial night eye power in the CS), but lost the close connection to their ancestors which the Dunmer usually have (dropped the ancestor ghost summon).

They're a bit slower on their feet, but a bit hardier, and have some other, minor differences, such as a penchant for martial arts/hand to hand combat, but less skill with blades, etc.

I am trying to ensure a good degree of compatability, so although I normally use a number of cosmetic/race changing mods, I do not require any of them to use this. It's designed more to allow people to merge this with the cosmetic mods of their choice, hopefully without conflict.

Installation: just put the esp and meshes folder in the Oblivion/data folder as usual. The Mesh files should end up in Oblivion/data/Meshes/characters/greyelf:
headgreyelf.nif
headgreyelf.egm
headgreyelf.egt
headgreyelf.tri

Some things I recommend:

I use this race with a number of things. I recommend a mod which changes the khajiit Eye of Night ability to a toggle, it should work on this race's version of the power (it does for me, as it is a feature included in Beautiful People, which I use). I also use hair from Throttlekitty's hair pack 01 on my Grey Elf character, which you may have seen screenshots of on the TES Nexus (it's another one of those things which must be merged with the main cosmetic mod you use in order to work, I think. I had to have someone else do it for me, so I'm no expert on the subject).

Some nice textures which do not require an esp file are Django's Unique Features, which includes some great Morrowind-style tattoos for Dunmer (and will work for this race as well, since it uses Dunmer textures); also Improved Facial Textures, it will work along with DUF.

I also recommend Robert's male body (muscular body type is the one I use), although unfortunately there is not a whole lot of armor specifically made for it.

Anyway, just some ideas. I hope you like the mod, and feel free to let me know if there are any problems, keeping in mind that I am new to modding (this is my first release). Drop me a PM (WestRonin on TES Nexus) and I'll try to help.

Permissions: As I said earlier, feel free to combine this with whatever cosmetic/character creation oriented mods you use, so that you can expand your options as you feel like, just don't release it in a compilation without asking me, and don't use/release it in any other public mods without asking me either. Also, I unless I say otherwise, leave the race as is (no tweaking the stats, powers, etc., in anything you release that includes it, you can always make your own race if you want something different, after all).

Also, since this mod includes a custom head mesh by Throttlekitty, you will most likely have to get her permission to release the head mesh with anything yourself, see her readme in the "Throttlekitty Hot Heads" mod for details. I received permission from her to use it in this mod.
