Quiet Feet MAX 2.0
------------------

Quiet Feet MAX 2.0 is an updated extension of the "Quiet Feet" mod orignally by OnmyojiOmn.
It has now been updated and changed to an 0 byte/downsample footsound file replacer and includes a new downsampled sound option.

It includes support for Oblivion, Shivering Isles, All DLC mods (Knights, etc) and any future
mods that will use the base creature sounds with this method.

Quiet Feet MAX 2.0 fixes the horrible stuttering when people ride a horse or fight
certain enemies (e.g. wolves). This is because characters in the game have
distinct sound effects that play when each foot hits the ground, which means
characters with more feet put more pressure on your system. Many systems can't
handle this. One solution is to open Oblivion.ini and set iMaxImpactSoundCount
to a lower value, but "impact sounds" includes blocks, hits, etc.

Quiet Feet MAX 2.0 solves this problem by simply replacing footfall sound effects for all
enemy creatures with a 0 byte sound file. Whispered Feet 1.0 partially solves this problem while still retaining the footfall sounds. It does this by replacing footfall sound effects for all enemy creatures with a downsampled 16000khz 8bit mono sound file.Apparently the game uses a different system for humans, so they don't cause the stuttering.

This fix is highly recommended for users of integrated onboard audio that
lack hardware audio support (Laptops/Motherboards).

Installation

Remove all previous Quiet Feet MAX plugin versions (*.esp) you will not need these if you use this version.

Quiet Feet MAX 2.0 now has three folders. Install files from only ONE folder at any time:

Replaces all footfall sound effects for all NPC enemy creatures with a 0 byte sound file.

--- "Whispered Feet" ---

Replaces all footfall sound effects for all NPC enemy creatures with a downsampled sound file.

--- "Whispered Feet MAX" --- (Combination of Quiet Feet MAX and Whispered Feet)

Replaces all footfall sound effects for all four legged enemy creatures with a 0 byte sound file.
Replaces all footfall sound effects for all two legged enemy creatures with a downsampled sound file.

Copy the sound folder in one of the above to the Data folder under your Oblivion installation folder.
This is probably C:\Program Files\Oblivion\Data. To uninstall, delete the files in "Oblivion\Data\Sound\fx\npc\".
Disabling or deleting this mod will have no effect on your saved games.

Compatibility

Quiet Feet replaces the base footfall wav sound for creatures with a 0 byte file. Since variations of the same creature in oblivion use these base footfall sounds it will have the same effect as removing the footfall sounds as previous Quiet Feet MAX versions have done. If you wish to use the old plugin method of Quiet Feet MAX please download version 1.2

There is also alternative to fixing the stuttering in the form of lowering the sound hardware accleration tab in windows sound properties however this method will produce undersirable sound quality hiss.
