Description:

Frostleaf Leather Armor adds a new set of light armor to the game. It uses original textures and Bethesda-made, stock Oblivion meshes. There are five pieces: hood, cuirass, leggings, boots, and gloves. Intended for mid-level characters (levels 10-15), its stats place it slightly behind Elven mail in terms of weight, durability and protection. It is predominantly white, and was created with an elven ranger in mind, but any character can wear it; its stats do not favor any particular character type or build.

All five pieces of the set can be bought from Fjotreid at the Hammer and Axe in Bruma. There is only one set of armor available, and it does not respawn.

Background:

An Argonian treasure hunter, bearing loot plundered from a newly uncovered Ayleid ruin beyond Cyrodiil's Northern border, recently passed through Bruma, unloading many of her finds in the shops there. Among the assorted Ayleid stones and minor artifacts were two suits of unusual armor. Crafted of the highly resilient leather of an unknown beast and stiff cloth interwoven with finely-wrought mithril fibers, it most closely resembled Bosmeri-designed armor- yet nobody in Bruma could properly identify it. The treasure hunter kept one set, and sold the other to Fjotreid at the Hammer and Axe.

Fjotreid wanted to know more about this seemingly rare and valuable armor he had come into the posession of. The treasure hunter was of little use- the only details she could offer were that both sets were "in a cave" and "worn by dead elves, frozen stiff, frozen stiff." With the help of the equally intrigued Suurootan, Fjotreid was able to determine a few more details; that the armor was, indeed, made by Bosmeri craftsman, and that it was nearly 150 years old- having been well preserved in the ice-encrusted cavern in which it was found. Lacking any other information, he cleaned the armor up, dubbed it "Frostleaf," and put it up for sale.

Though the treasure hunter had been little help in uncovering the true origins of the armor, she did mention an unexplored passage within the ruins in which it had been found- suggesting that there may yet be more to be discovered. Unfortunately, she did not reveal the location of the ruins before heading South, leaving behind only rumors- rumors of lost treasures, and lost answers to mysteries long frozen beneath the Jerall mountains...

Future Plans:

There aren't many weapons and shields that match this armor set. I'm not too happy about that, but given that this armor will eventually be outclassed by upgrades, not to mention the amount of time I've already spent on it, I felt it prudent to simply release the important parts and not worry about the frills. If there is sufficient interest in Frostleaf weaponry, I might release another version in the future that has more goodies in it. This is highly contingent on demand, however, so please let me know directly if this is something you'd like to see.

I had a second suit of armor in mind shortly after beginning this one- a more powerful, Elven-based set that continues the "snow and leaf" visual motif, a suitable upgrade from this set. Perhaps now that this project is done, I can move on to that one. I'd like to detail the dungeon in which the armor was found, as well as the story of how they got to be there in the first place. Perhaps that treasure hunter will return to Bruma some day and reveal her secrets...
