About this image

From the works of Master Alberic Canne, Scholar and Explorer.

"The Dark Forests", volume VI, page 18.

"While we where staying in Leyawiin and prepared ourselfes for our small expedition to the eastern fringes of Blackwood, where the realm of the Argonian begins, we where warned about the scattered tribes of savage Khajiits who inhabited the area, since they had responded to earlier contact with civilization with hostility. However, unlike the guards of the xenofobic count, my expedition would surely be seen as an act of friendly curiosness. At least that was my hope, wich would probably have gotten punctured by poisoned darts had I been wrong.

I wasn't. After two days of searching, we finally made contact for the first time. Two Khajiits approached us close to a carved totem of sorts, wich judging from the bones and rusted weapons by it's base, is a sort of border-post.
The two catmen where armed with bows and short bone daggers, and were clothed in loincloths from different native species. They both had a spider tatooed or painted on their shoulders, wich is probalby a way to tell wich tribe is wich.

At first, they where pretty hostile, but when we, with the help of gestures and Khajiiti home-language, managed to prove our friendly intentions and that we were more or less unarmed. However, they would only take us to their village, if we wore blindfolds.
We spent about two days in their hospitality.Of course, their first feelings where pretty harsh, considering the Imperial Legion and County Leyawiins attempts to flush them out. But once they learned our true intentions, the climate became warmer, and we began to exchange knowledge.

The tribe I visited is called Maiazhara in their own tounge, and their favoured forest-god is the sacred aspect of the Spider, and hence, the different kinds of large spiders in the area are considered sacred to them. They live in huts made from leaves and trees, and they don't wear much in the way of clothing, owing to their fur and the warm climate. Their village was built around an old Ayleid crypt, wich served as the home for the chieftain and the shamans, and a place of reverence for the Spider-godess.

One thing I noticed was that there was as many female warriors and hunters as there where male, wich is a stark contrast to life back home in Colovia. Another thing was all the old skulls and bones from humans that were scattered around the village, presumably to create some kind of fear-ward sround the village. The superstition seems to be pretty developed among the jungle-Khajiits; many of them spat and made some weird gestures when we arrived, as to protect themselfes. Also, there were many different trinkets and amulets scattered throughout the village. One of wich was a small doll made out of jungle-material that had a really striking resemblance to the Count of Leyawiin. Can't be too careful, eh?

Before we left, we managed to convince one of the warriors to pose for us, so we could create an illustration for this book. However, we had to surrender some locks from our hair, presumably to prevent us from stealing his soul.

As an afterword: these tribes live peacefull lives for themselfes the way they want to and have always wanted to. They pose no threat unless threatened. However, dear reader, do not enter their lands with greed or conquest in your heart. They can be deadly. Or, as the chieftain himself put it: 'Those who enter our sacred lands with black bellies, they shall be all cought in the web of the Spider-Godess. She will suck out their very souls.'
