GRAB ROACH resource file (WIP) and maybe help me fix him? >_<
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I NEED HEEEELP :(

Hi there!

As some of you may have noticed, I have been absent from modding for a loooong time. Which also means: I am out of practive like you wouldn't believe.

Roach - Gerald's trusty horse(s) from the Witcher series - has been sitting in my "unused resources" folder for MONTHS and I have never done anything with the file. Which is a shame, since he is a FREE and LEGAL horse resource and also super cute and stuffed with awesome equiptment.

Problem? I suck. As you can see in the screenshot, I ported the body and the saddle/saddlebags, but threw out the bridle, mane and tail.
Why? Well..

Bridle: Because it is unrealistic/gappy xD the briddle itself and the snaffle are not connected in any way, which, WHAT?! Makes no sense. The snaffle is just floating there with reins connected to it and the way it is now, the briddle itself is useless. So I am going to work on that and fix the issue (I hope)

Mane and tail: Too high poly. THE END. No seriously, the polycount of the mane alone was too high to export it from blender. And don't get me started with the tail - after switching to edit mode it turned into a solid yellow blob of vertices. INSANITY. So: chop chop, away they went.

Back to the PROBLEM: I still suck.
Part of the poor horse might be ported and I may have a ton of horse ports from different games under my belt (TERA, DAZ, Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim...the list goes on), but I have never run into problems the way I am facing them with Roach. His legs stretch a bit spaghetti-ish while he walks, his neck has a dent in it whenever it bends and even his stomach has those stupid movement dents that make it cave in. WHAT IS HAPPENING :(

So yeah, the topic still stands: I NEED HELP. Maybe from those awesome people who have more experience with porting/creating creatures than I do? Like, maybe Elbethien or Room207?

Pleeease >_< Roach is so cute, I WANT HIM. I am not dropping this project, but I have gotten to the point where I can't keep going alone.

And that is why I've uploaded the resource file with my progress for you guys to grab. Maybe one of you can tell me where I screwed up and help me fix it, Y/Y?

GRAB ROACH RESOURCE FILE AND MY PROGRESS HERE

    There

    Notes:
I included Blend file with loaded skeleton which can be posed so you can see animating in blender for yourself. No animation loaded though, it's just the posable skeleton
    There's also the nif.
I did manual painting of the rigging and some geometric adjustments
I would suggest ALWAYS comparing geometry to target vanilla stuff that works before bone weight copying. And I'd also suggest ALWAYS testing animations in Blender to do manual bone weight right there... but I do kow that painting weights can be scary at first...
On the simplest idea I can say that the "blur" brush in low intensity settings is the most important tool in manual paint for rigging.
I re-weighted the thingies (copy weight) using the horse as reference but I didnt go any further in more manual painting...
    Hope this helps

YAAAAAY thank youuuuu This is so awesome, hugs all around!

Yeah, I will have to dab into manual weightpainting at some point >_< It is scary indeed. All it does for me is making the mesh glow in rainbow colours and I am like ???
There is NO tutorial out there explaining manual weightpainting. They all just go "This is the weightpaint mode. Go nuts." ??? That is... super helpful? XD

      XD
Yup... pretty much standard procedure about modding feature that nobody cares to explain.
Which reminds me of the long list of tutorials I have yet to do...
In the meantime... No problem. That's what friends are for.

Hey Chak, glad to see you back at it ^^.

Sadly I don't have much experience with creatures myself so I can't help with your real issue.
I was just wondering, did you try a heavy decimate modifier on the tail and mane? It seems such a shame for poor Roach being the mystical teleporting demon that she is to go without her mane and tail ^^.

I did, but decimating kills the UV map I am going to use Vanilla mane and tail I guess, see what I can do Roach will not be bald!

And whoa, I did not know Roach was female? All I remember is that Gerald had several horses and he simply named all of them Roach (which I think is a tad bit creepy XD)
