Adriahna sat at her bedroom desk. It was late, but time meant nothing to her; a jolt of magic was all the cure for weariness she needed, and she was trying to work out a new spell.

This one, however, was particularly problematic; the energies involved were simply far too volatile to control. Even a catalyst - something Adriahna rarely used, and even more rarely needed - would be insufficient.

"Unless..." Adriahna rose from her chair as an idea formed in her head.
Her lips curled into a smile as her eyes fixed on an item on one of the shelves; crystallized Dragonblood shards. Remnants of an age long gone, the crystals were valuable beyond measure and could be used to stabilize or empower spells.

Her smile turned into a grin as she closed her hands on the shards, their magical powers tingling her fingers and sending waves of power into her.
Power she needed to make this spell work.

Adriahna put the shards on her desk before resitting herself. She measured them and began perfecting her theory.

She will go over it a hundred more times before she considers casting the spell; no-one knew how to forge the shards anymore, so she only had a very limited number of tries.

But the smile remained, and the heavens themselves will rain fire once she's done.
