Is it possible to do an owl or eagle that a modder could make for a companion? Perching with head turning & blinking would probably be sufficient. Opening the beak for a sound effect would be icing on the cake. Launching to flight would be outstanding, but might be more work than it is worth. One could probably have a spell to switch you to fist person sight & free the camera to simulate seeing through the birds eyes, like in the Pratchett 'borrowing', to scout out the countryside. I am not sure that would have all that much use actually, but I had a request for it which is far beyond my ability to make. Just a thought. :-)
