About this image

WARNING! This is a rant post.

If you can't deal with that, turn around and leave NOW. This is the only warning I will give you. I am in a really shitty mood because of all this, so hold on to your hats, I am not taking prisoners. And before you even think about posting a reply comment, read EVERYTHING.
Now on to the main event.

During the last weeks I (and a lot of other members here I am sure) have noticed a slew of insulting image comments here in the image share. I am not going to point fingers and call names, I guess you people know who you are. Instead...

Let me present a Best Of:

  • "Your  character has big boobs and shows cleavage, this isn't a porn site!"
  • "There are too many big boobed characters around, they are all sluts!"
  • "Because of image posts like these there are so little male armors!"
  • "Only heavily armored female characters are REAL characters!"
  • "Big boobs and anime face, go back to 4chan you weeabo!"

And my personal favorite:

  • "Your character has huge boobs but a little girl's face  - this shows that you have a mental illness and should leave here before you become a danger to society!"

(Why is this one my favorite? Not just because it is incredibly closed minded and insulting . No, I am a fan of the jab at mental illnesses. Since I have a mental illness myself let me say THANK YOU for being insensitive on top of everything else. Bravo.)

ANYWAYS!
Why am I making this post? Personally I don't like boobs that are too big on characters and I am a fan of bulky, heavy armor. If you know my personal website and the armors I make, you should know that. So why do I care?

Because this section of the Nexus is for IMAGES. For screenshots people take in their OWN GAME. That is a very personal thing and for some of us it takes courage to post anything at all.
What right do you people have to judge, insult or make fun of the images people like to take? How much lower can you sink? Is it so much fun to be a bully? Enlighten me, because I have never seen the appeal of dragging people down like that.
How DARE you point fingers at other people's characters and judge them for stuff like that? OH MY GOD this character has boobs, quick, put a full body chainmail on it! Are you SERIOUS?!

Look at the Skyrim image share. 90 % of the images there are close-up portraits of female characters that staring into the camera with neutral facial expressions. I am not a fan of that since it gets boring really fast - but do I walk around insulting people for that? NO!

"Do not like what I don't like" ?! Seriously? Is this where we stand now?
Of corse you have the right not to like DMRA/DMZ armors. Of corse you have the right to prefer female characters in full plate armor. And of corse it is a fact that there are less custom male armors than female armors around.
But while this is a reason for concern, it does NOT give you a free pass to insult others who do not share your preferences.

On the contrary, you basically shoot yourself into your own knee by doing that. Why? Let me explain:
The Oblivion community is getting smaller, so finding mods to your liking gets near impossible.  Because of this fact,  every image poster is a potential modder in the making. Because that is what we DO here: if we can't find a mod to our liking, we take things into our own hands and LEARN how to mod. It's born from necessity. So yeah. Scaring people off by insulting their screenshots? Way to deprive yourself of what that person could have possibly come up with modding-wise.
So yeah, going around insulting these people while simultaniously complaining about the lack of the mods you like?
Congratulations, you played yourself.

Why am I so worked up over this?
Because I always thought the Oblivion community was ABOVE this. I have seen the drama in the Skyrim section and I always thought "I am so glad to mod for Oblivion, the community there is so much nicer."
But like I state on my own website: I do NOT tolerate "weeabo" spam. It's closed minded and insulting. And I am NOT above pulling my mods should this continue.

Good day.

Hmm, too bad i only found this post so many years later.

For future people stumbling into all this: by default, i'm not particularly sensitive about looks, mine or others, or overly careful about not stepping into people's toes when saying my piece, as what i think is often wired to a hair trigger - this behavior has since mellowed down as i'm heading into my 30's, but it's still part of me.

But what was described here by chak, was people going out of their way to be asshats, and that ain't quite the same as being direct.
You can give people a straight, hard answer without making an ass out of yourself and lacking respect, and knowing you can do that, you should at least try.

But that's for the people that aren't actually just burning bridges and having a laugh at the expense of others, and for those types, well, i partook in some of that too, in my early teens, and i must say the satisfaction of getting people super pissed wears off fast, and looking back at what you did later on as you age is a cringy walk of shame you'd rather avoid!

I'm pretty new to this site, and in the past have seen that most forums and games are full of selfish/toxic people who don't understand it is in their own best interest to be kind to others.
But I found to my surprise that there were mostly good supportive people in the Skyrim image share, who when asked, would give valuable and supportive criticism. Since then I have made some great new friends there, post an image weekly or thereabouts, and am starting to do more work (mostly on textures) in my own game now too. I hope to one day be good enough at it to share some of it also.
A friend said I might enjoy modding Oblivion too, since I used to play it, but only on xbox. That brought me here to Oblivions image share and I was astounded at the amazing images I've seen (never knew the game could look so amazing). .

Then I came across this post... First let me say the image is beautiful. I love the warmth, the character is unique and pretty, and her armor looks great.

Now to add my own rant: Regardless of the reasons anyone does it, what could possibly be wrong with people playing as the character they choose? Many play as opposite genders, more than half my girlfriends play as males, and most males play as females. Many more play as characters than can cast magic, or are huge muscled and super strong. Most have amazing and almost always, extremely unrealistic skills with weapons, and many other traits they probably do not possess in real life. There are very good reasons these games are called "Fantasy".
I can't say the gender for certain of everyone I've come across in mmo's, but I am quite sure that most of those who make rude comments about the size and shape of a female characters body parts are male. In my experience women almost never do this, because we all have body issues ourselves, and are more sensitive to how others feel about such things. Besides that, everyone and anyone can be beautiful, it is only a personal opinion. I have been hurt by some of the things these ugly people have said to me too.
I could say I wish I wasn't so sensitive, but then that sensitivity is one of my strengths as an artist (and as a person). More importantly, I and those like me are NOT the problem. So what I really wish is that more people had the inner strength and common sense required to be kind and accepting of others who are just different. That so many are too weak to understand this simple common sense fact, is really the biggest problem we have in the world: intolerance. It is why we have wars, poverty, racism, ageism, pollution, famine, bigotry, et cetera. And it is why freedom is so far only a pipe dream.
After seeing this post and the comments here, I am more inspired than ever to start modding Oblivion now. It is plain to see that there are many here who do possess strength and wisdom, and I am certain that these are the people who are most talented as well, as is always the case with any art form.

Love and respect to those who stand for the freedom of us all. Especially when they are different than those they stand for. ^-^

Remember to prioritize. Are those people giving constructive criticism? That's important. Whether they like the pics or not is not the matter: they are trying to help in some way. If they don't like them, they should say why, and give solutions to problems. But a blanket "I don't like it"? That´s worse than useless. Therefore, unimportant. Just ignore them and go on. The best result trolls can get is making someone angry. Don´t give them that satisfaction. Give them what they deserve: nothing. Let them post their own pictures and have them criticized by others.

Someone not liking something has nothing to do with giving solutions to a problem.
Trying to make others like the same things is the only real problem there.

I hope you don't pull your stuff from Nexus because the jerks who left for Skyrim decided to play Oblivion again and never changed their mind set. That was the reason that DeusChan left several times.
I've always considered it a bad thing to the community when one person leaves because of trolls. Its also why they made a report button on the Forums. For self centered bigots keep their head to far up their butt to get a breath of fresh air.

I agree with you 100% Chakaru. Especially the part about "every image poster is a potential modder in the making."
I released my first mod over on the Morrowind Nexus a few days ago, but before I uploaded it, I posted some sample screenshots to the image section to see what people thought. I didn't directly say that I may release it until someone actually commented.
If people made fun of my images and said "You shouldn't of posted this" or "this looks terrible" I would of never released the mod.
Sorry about all of this Charkaru. And everyone involved, really. Hopefully this will all blow over soon.
But okay, since there is a pretty screenshot above the rant, I gotta say. I love the way your character's eyes look.

I agree with everything, and all of the stuff you said is true. That people should be banned. But they just keep coming and coming... They don't have any right to complain about other people stuff. And I think I said this before: Does it matter if someone's character have big boobs, or shows a lot of skin? No. For example: How many nude bodies can you see in paintings? Do you complain about that? Why do you should complain then with Screenshots? I'm just tired of this people.
