About this image

Something I noticed a lot about past releases of this mod was that people really enjoyed taking screenshots of the world. It was an effective source of feedback and, as I also learned, an equally effective and creative way to spread the word about Areth -- then known as RoA.

Now, ever since I turned to building a smaller world for the sake of higher detail, I thought I might pay tribute to those on the Nexus who routinely screen-captured my work alongside their own installed mods, and stuck in a few 'secret' areas that were designed purely for aesthetic purposes. The above image showcases one such area under development.

I cannot express just how satisfied I am with this latest build. It will be, by far, my most detailed submission to the Nexus yet. It's taken a whole year to sculpt it out this way -- much of that time spent just preparing for it and gathering design plans outside of the CS -- but I feel, and I think you'll feel too, that such level of quality is worth the wait.

For the first time ever, I can proudly say that everything in Areth was/is being/will always be made by hand. No procedural generation used here. Even the heightmap was produced within the Construction Set, which was painstaking, but produced results many times more rewarding. Like that intricately carved mountain trail on the far right.

The color and setting reminds me of a place in the Eversong Woods from World of Warcraft.

Ding-ding! We have a winner! Eversong Woods was in fact a major source of inspiration in deciding on the colors for this subcontinent. In designing this part of the world, since it's the starting area, I wanted to have the player roaming a land that radiated with a warm and cozy sense of 'home'. This particular niche in the realm of Areth is the heart of Arethean civilization after all. Thus, I wanted to explore the development of a warm, hospitable atmosphere. That's when I thought of Eversong Woods from World of Warcraft. Great eye!

Yeah I may have spent more time in that zone then I care to admit. Which reminds me I need to go to my Alt Aholic meeting for this week.

I freely admit I'm one of those compulsive 'landschaft' hunters. So what you've reported this time makes me drool at the thought of new photo opportunities.
    Good luck!
