   thanks for this. I remember the first episode ever shown on tv (I am that old yes)
   I could never work out why an alien race would choose a police call box. it would only blend in on earth!

      If I remember correctly the time machine was stolen (yarp) from a museum. It apparently was 'gotten' to work by 'Who' and such but he used it in London and it was stuck for a long time. After that he decided he liked it and left it that way.
      
      That's at least what I remember.

      Not correct I am afraid, A Tardis has a chameleon ability, able to change it physical appearance to blend in to any surrounding, but the Doctors Tardis chameleon circuits are broken (as mentioned in the first episodes). The Masters Tardis (from episodes with Tom Baker as the Doctor) are fully functional, and you can see that his works perfectly.

   Just finished re-re-re-re-watching it. Think I preferred the original version of "The Five Doctors" over "The day of the Doctor".
