If you wish, several mods are now available to change the ship frequencies. I recommend Balanced Ships by author christianwidjaya. This mod slightly improves better ship arrivals occurences without being cheaty. The vanilla unmodded game is just too repetitive for finding better ships, yet this mod still requires some searching rewarding gameplay.
