Changelogs
This was built for TTW 3.3.2!

Why
Bittercup is a long time favorite TTW companion of mines. But she's been sorely lacking for a really robust and fully functional conversion that allows her to blend in perfectly with other vanilla companions. So I took it upon myself to do it to a degree of perfectionism. The goal was for Bittercup to feel like she wasn't even a mod companion but a standard game included companion.

How
I know a lot of you shirk the idea of AI voice work but for Bittercup, it was really the only way to expand her lines to fit the context of a follower perfectly. So with the help of ElevenLabs (and a 5$ subscription, money has literally gone into this mod) I worked on expanding her voice lines to cover the essentials for Companion functionality and for hiring her. Took a lot of cherry picking and I burned through my character quota on this mod alone but I think it's very good and it doesn't feel uncanny or awkward.

Changes
I kept things as close to the cuff as possible, but I'll mention improvements and stuff.
  • Full companion wheel (and by extension, JIP CCC) compatibility.
  • Acts exactly to the letter like any other companion now. Ignores crimes, friendly hits, follow distance, perk, dialogue options, sequence and conditions etc,. This includes dismissal spots in the Mojave (Goodsprings saloon and Lucky 38). She still has the custom homing functionality too.
  • Fully voiced, with a large extent of the voice work being from ElevenLabs. I also toned down her tendency to complain at random. She'll still do it, but less and she won't be ungrateful about your home and stuff. She also won't comment on your stealing, tripping over stuff, and etc,. Big Town comments are only said in Big Town. Again, she should function just like a vanilla companion.
  • Extensive cleanup. Only has what we need to function so conflict resolution should be minimal if not unneeded.

To-Do
  • Adjust her combat dialogue frequency. I feel like she's too verbose. I haven't touched it though, so maybe she has dialogue where other followers just don't.
  • Swap out some placeholder dialogue from the old mod when I have more AI quota.
  • Add some minor commentary on the different locations in the wastes, maybe some dialogue for the Mojave transition. I'm not gonna do an entire quest line for Bittercup but I want her to be a little bit aware and not mute. Again, when I have quota.
  • Her passive command has a reply that is a little too long. I need to make a shorter reply for that.

Known Issues
  • This one relates to every single custom follower ever. FNV and TTW have vanilla follower specific teleports, wait or follow commands at certain activators and scripts strewn all over the place. These prevent vanilla followers from following you into tranquility lane or into the gladiator rings, or possibly help in following you somewhere in a timely fashion. However, they most certainly do not account for custom followers. I'm working on a generic solution that will target all followers since making a follower specific solution without causing a ton of conflicts is kinda impossible.
  • This one relates to every single custom follower ever too. Ferocious loyalty has no effect unless otherwise supported. Will be fixed in mentioned generic mod.
How do I hire Bittercup??
I don't think there's any follower who just goes with you without some sort of gatekeeping or discovery mechanism. Humanoid companions can be extremely powerful in Fallout and when you're trying to enjoy the struggle that is hardcore early game, being able to pop into Big Town and pick up Bittercup is too easy in my opinion. So to hire Bittercup:

  • Visit Big Town
  • Find Bittercup, get her to like you.
  • Rescue the others from Germantown Police Department
  • Get the dialogue where Red asks you to help them survive.
  • You can now recruit Bittercup.
