The Gun Runners got their hands on pre-war schematics for the .357 Auto Pistol.
Being the only ones with the knowledge and technology to produce them, these are of their exclusive production.
This proved to be a high-quality, top-performance weapon and is now considered to be one of the best weapons on sale.
Of course, they started to produce .357 Auto ammunition too, but not to the amounts of the more widely used calibers.
Not just anyone will have one of those. Given their performance, even the NCR has acquired some for military use.
But of course, well-connected people with the right caps could also get their hands on them.

Has 3 file options, each with different chambering: .357 Auto, 9mm, and .45 Auto.
Intended to be an alternative to the 12.7mm Pistol. Once you've leveled up enough you'll be able to buy it or get it from hostile NPCs, but only the Gun Runners will have them for sale, and not just any NPC will spawn them. It is affected by "The Professional" perk
It has 3 weapon mods: Silencer, Laser Sight, and Extended Mag. (+5).
