About this mod

Adds a hollow book to Doc Mitchell's house that hides a .44 Magnum revolver inside, allowing you to sneak a more powerful weapon into restricted areas if your Sneak skill is below 50.

Permissions and credits
Here's something I made for fun. It's an item that looks like an ordinary pre-war book but in fact hides a powerful .44 Magnum revolver! Since the .44 Magnum is normally an improved holdout weapon, if your Sneak skill is below 50, it will be confiscated. However, when concealed inside the hollow book, you'll never be left without firepower again.

Gameplay-wise, when you "fire" this weapon, you drop the book and equip a snub-nosed .44 Magnum revolver. When you pick the book back up, the revolver is removed (i.e. hidden back inside the book). Keep in mind that the book is still classified as a weapon to NPCs (much like the Binoculars or Camera) so even though it won't be confiscated when you walk into a casino, if you run around with it "unholstered", you're going to have a bad time.

NEW! Added v2.0

Gameplay-wise, the book is an Aid item and can be found under the corresponding menu of the Pip-Boy. When you "ingest" it, a copy of the book is dropped at your feet while you equip a snub-nosed .44 magnum revolver. When you pick the book back up, the revolver is removed (i.e. hidden back inside the book). The book can be hotkeyed for faster deployment, although you'll still have to draw the gun once it's been equipped.

The book itself can be found in Doc Mitchell's house in Goodsprings, hidden among a number of other books on one of the bookshelves in his living room. This ties in with my firm belief that Doc Mitchell is a retired badass and also adds a layer of lore-friendliness. Take a look at the screenshots included if you want to know exactly where it is.

INSTALLATION

Extract all the files in the archive to your New Vegas data folder (which is the same folder where FalloutNV.esm is located) and then enabling the ESP either in your mod manager of choice, or under "Data Files" in the launcher that runs when you start up New Vegas.

CREDITS

The snub-nosed revolver model was made by Launius and was downloaded from here. The book mesh I adapted myself from the base game object. It looks acceptable in both first-person and third-person views when you're holding it (see screenshots) but looks a little weird when "holstered".
