This here mod adds the Thompson-Center Contender, a break-action single-shot pistol, which comes complete with custom sounds, weapon mods, level-list integration and can be used as a holdout weapon!

Now, while you only get one shot with this puppy, the tradeoff is versatility and accuracy. The Contender can take nearly any pistol, rifle and even shotgun ammo, provided you have it set accordingly, so if you're low on a certain caliber you can switch to a different one, or even switch to a different barrel if you're low on a certain ammo type. You can find barrels in loot, or buy them at a store, and once you got 'em you can switch them around at a workbench. To do so, though, you need at least one pencil (for pushing out the hinge pin) and of course the requisite barrel. Doing this requires a Repair skill of 3, so for your average Courier this process would be a breeze. If you dunno where to get pencils, you can nick a couple from Doc Mitchell's house.

The Contender can also be modded, of course; you can slap on either a scope, a suppressor, or sex it up with a nickel body, which will raise its max condition. The Contender can also be repaired with other Contenders.

NOTE: DON'T BARREL SWITCH A MODDED CONTENDER! 'Cause of game limitations, mods applied to the gun will be lost if you do a barrel switch. If you're gonna switch barrels, REMOVE any mods applied to the gun first and then change the barrels.

The Contender can be bought, or occasionally found in loot. It's designated as a tier 4 weapon, so will show up with those (another tier 4 is the Hunting Revolver), but can also show up a little earlier. As of 1.01 there's a free Contender in Doc Mitchell's house, sitting with the broken 9mm submachine gun, but the old thing is busted too and needs some fixing up before it can be used.

Known Issues:

Occasionally, the hammer will deviate from the frame of the gun. This seems to happen especially when using the sgtm command, but fortunately it doesn't seem to happen often with VATS. In either case, it's easily fixed by unequipping and re-equipping the gun. It's also a bit more obvious in third person than in first.

The chambered bullet doesn't actually get removed when reloading. I did this intentionally since I was having serious issues making it align correctly for the animation, so I just said "sod it" and locked it in place.

Compatibility:

The mod should get along well with other mods. Since it uses custom formlists for ammo though, it won't take ammo added by other mods; a compatability patch would need to be made for those cases.
