About this mod

Adds the mason jar mine from Fallout 3 concept art to the game, in 3 mine types: Timer, Proximity, and Detonator. Model was built with a combination of existing meshes, just like the concept art depicted.

[READ]: This is the successor to my original Mason Jar Mine mod (found here). It has been improved in many ways, which I will go over in more detail below at the "What's New" Section.

I noticed while reading the Fallout Wikia that there was concept art made for an improvised Mason jar Mine. However, the idea never made it past the concept art stage. I was a bit surprised that no one had made a mod for this yet, so I decided to try my hand at making one.

I used existing meshes and textures to make the model and tried to keep it as close to the look of the Fallout 3 concept art as possible (with some artistic licence taken on my part).

What's New:
------------------

This version includes many fixes, improvements and additions by me and several other modders whom I got help from. Below is a list of the changes since the legacy version:

-The model was optimized by weijiesen (the creator of EVE) to reduce memory usage on low-end machines
-weijiesen also created a custom explosion effect: you can now see the red-hot nails as they explode outward, and some of them can be picked back up afterwards (some will be bent, but can be straightened at a workbench)
-weijiesen also found a way to remove Lonesome Roads DLC dependency by using the nail from the Nail Bat instead!
-weijiesen also fixed the first person issue where the player's hand was clipping through the mesh, and he additionally fixed the collision issues (the mines won't fall through the floor anymore).
-The addon mod Mason Jar Mine - Merchant by Jokerine has been merged into this mod. This means that the amazing little shop she created outside of Novac is now included in the main mod
-Bombina's store is now where you get the new schematic needed to make all three versions of the Mason Jar Mines. There is a safe in the back room next to her bed with all three schematics in it, as well as a little note with a bit of background on her that I wrote. SPOILER: If you have trouble picking the lock, reading the note will give you a hint for how to get the key!
-Several new high-quality custom icons were made for me for use with this mod. This includes icons for the misc. items needed to make the Mason Jar Mines, as well as the PipBoy icons used by the weapon versions (by default, the main download uses the male icon. If you wish to use the female icon, see the optional download section. Both were made by tragiverse, the creator of the Complete Vault Girl Interface). The misc. icons were also made by Jokerine.
-I will include the old male icons I made in the optional downloads section as well just in case anyone prefers those.

[NEW 09/04/15]: Added a Russian translation version to the optional downloads section. It was kindly provided for me by Origonx.

How to Make:
-----------------------

Since there was no "Mason Jar" in the game that you could find or collect, I implemented an improvised manor of crafting one:

-You need to melt down glass bottles at any campfire-style crafter. The list of bottles that can be melted includes:
*Empty Sunset Sarsaparilla Bottles
*Empty Nuka Cola Bottles
*Small Whiskey Bottles
*Large Whiskey Bottles
*Milk Bottles

-This will give you "Molten Glass". The ratio of bottles melted to Molten Glass are 3:1 for the smaller bottles (Milk Bottles and Small Whiskey Bottles), and 2:1 for all the rest (the larger bottles).

Still at the campfire-style crafter, you can combine the following to make 1 Mason Jar:
*1 Molten Glass
*1 Scrap Metal

Then, at any normal Crafting Table you can combine the following to make 1 Mason Jar Mine - Timer:
*1 Mason Jar
*1 Cigarette
*1 Leather Belt
*1 Long-Fuse Dynamite
*20 Nails

Or you can combine the following to make a Proximity Mine version (like the bottlecap mine):
*1 Mason Jar
*1 Sensor Module
*1 Leather Belt
*1 Long-Fuse Dynamite
*20 Nails

And you can also create a Mason Jar Mine - Remote that uses the Detonator weapon (like c4):
*1 Mason Jar Mine - Proximity
*1 Scrap Electronics

Scrap metal can be turned into Long Nails on a 1:10 ratio:
*1 Scrap Metal

Bent Nails can be straightened:
*1 Bent Nail

You can also straighten Bent Nails on a 5:5 ratio:
*5 Bent Nail

For the moment, the stats and effects on the Mason Jar Mine(s) for Timer and Proximity are the same as the Bottlecap Mine, and the Mason Jar Mine for Remote is has the same stats and effects as C4.

Simply use a mod manager tool (I recommend Mod Organizer) or extract the files to your "data" directory.

Delete the files included.

None that I know of at the moment.

FAQ:
--------

Q: Why did you use a leather belt to trap the dynamite to the mine instead of something like Duct Tape?
A: I am still just an intermediate 3D modeler, so I really wanted to use existing meshes. This would have required me to make new meshes. In addition, I absolutely SUCK at mapping and making textures, and didn't want to try it again right now.

Q: Will you updating this mod with more content?
A: I will probably not be adding anything more beyond bug fixes.
