About this mod

Disables various sounds and pop-up messages.

Permissions and credits
"Hello, I am Fallout: New Vegas!
I see you are crippled! Let me remind you of it... again. And again. AND AGAIN.
An NPC that may or may not be relevant to you has just died on the other side of the map. Let me throw a pop-up in your face.
Oh, you completed a challenge! Let me make a loud noise to inform you of it!"

I love this game a lot, too much maybe, but it's the little things that can annoy me endlessly.
Whatever I do - discovering a location, gaining XP, completing a quest - there's a sound or a pop-up message to inform me of something that I am aware of after multiple playthroughs. So I tried to eliminate these little annoyances and then thought, well, might as well share.

Each archive contains 3 .esp files and a readme.
See lengthy explanation for small mod below.

-----
ShutUpHUD.esp:

Disables both sounds and pop-up messages.
When I say disable, I mean the sounds are still there but the volume is reduced so you don't hear them anymore;
the pop-up messages have been turned into corner messages so as to not interrupt gameplay.

> Sounds
- Challenges
- Chems (addicted/worn off; screen effects and messages stay)
- Critical Strike "blip"
- Experience gained
- Karma
- Level up (Skill point distribution screen still has sound)
- Location discovered
- Pipboy Map Highlight (blipblipblip it's a matter of taste, the noise was getting on my nerves whenever I was looking at my map)
- Quest added/updated/completed
- Reputation (there is still a pop-up but without sound... working on it actually I kinda gave up on that sorry I don't think anyone particularly cared anyway have a nice day!)

> Pop-ups
- Challenge Perks & Old World Blues Special Perks (DNAgent)
- Companion Messages (Perk/Leave/Death)*
- Equipment returned after arena fights in the Fort (millions of corner messages)
- Equipment returned when leaving the Fort
- Faction Disguises
- Items retrieved from Mojave Express Boxes
- Snowglobes**
- DLC Radio Signals & Level cap raised
- Quest NPC deaths***

+ semi-annoying corner reminders:
- You are crippled! (I know, game. You think I walk like this for fun?)
- To enter VATS... (Has it occurred to you I don't WANT to enter VATS?)

NOT included:
- Any messages you get when doing the X-13 Stealth Suit upgrade runs
- Critical Hit notifications
- Finding a soundfile for the jukebox in Old World Blues
- Installing upgrades in the Sink
- Reputation notifications/changes
- Tutorials [alternate Tutorial Killer]

* excluded Honest Hearts & Dead Money Companion Perk messages as those are more lengthy than just "Perk Added"
** you still get the pop-up for the first snow globe you find
*** because McGee is an idiot who always, ALWAYS ends up running into a horde of geckos

ShutUpHUDSounds.esp:
Disables only the sounds listed above, NOT the messages.

ShutUpHUDMessages.esp:

That there between the lines is in the readme file.
Main file requires FalloutNV.esm + DeadMoney.esm + HonestHearts.esm + OldWorldBlues.esm + LonesomeRoad.esm + Courier's Stash + Gun Runner's Arsenal. That is because the DLCs add challenges, perks and possibly other things that escape me right now which have been modified, plus the pop-up messages in the beginning of the game.
Fear not though, there is now a no DLC version and another thing. If anything isn't working, please let me know.

I am not aware of any conflicts between this and the ~100 other mods I'm running. If anything that is not a large man with a hammer breaks your game (meaning you are certain it's this mod), I would like to know so I can try to fix it.

+ Additionally, I just remembered the main file (not Messages OR Sounds) also removes the annoying effect from Fixer, i.e. the intended Temporary Addiction Removal (the thing that keeps going "whooosh" for a while) which is suboptimal as Fixer isn't supposed to cure addictions permanently anyway. But since it does, I removed the temporary part because it was annoying.

(Updates)

Almost instantaneous update: Added Courier's Stash Messages and may or may not have added, or rather, removed the endless "Item added" messages when fighting in the arena or getting stuff from Mojave Express Boxes.

More update: No DLC & no Courier's Stash versions added.
Other things... "You are overencumbered" and "You have just crafted 3 million items and I will not stop telling you about it until I'm really done" messages appear to be hardcoded but my knowledge is limited so maybe a solution will be found some day.

Update #3: I apologize for being dumb. Game should not crash upon leaving Doc Mitchell's place anymore (mine doesn't, that's a start). Also added GRA.

Update #4: Dug around a bit after Thenryb pointed out that some of the OWB pop-ups are quite annoying (and rightly so, they really are). For now I only updated the "No Stash" file because I'm tired and lazy but I also found some more pop-ups in Honest Hearts and (I think) Dead Money. (Honestly I don't even remember what I just did.) Nothing should burst into flames with this. If it does, notify me. Maybe some day I'll get around to figuring out how to disable tutorials! Although there is a mod floating around here somewhere that does that.

New Stuff. Just a small update to silence the godawful critical hit message blip noise. It baffles me how I missed that in the first place.
Editing and rar-ing and uploading multiple files confuses me. If I did something wrong, feel free to notify me in all caps to make it seem like you're yelling at me. Also adding pictures to show the simple process of turning pop-ups into corner messages. Bit late, I know, I've only ever been asked twice about that, but I figured - why not.

FIRE. No, an update to the main file (the one for all DLCs). Added the messages that "No Stash" version got before so now more less pop-ups in OWB and some other places.
