Ray, his father, and brother Joshua Graham lived in Mexico city for a couple years until the bombs dropped. They got out before the radiation made them into ghouls. Ray's father gave Joshua a gun called, A Light Shining In The Darkness, and gave Ray, a unique .44, he told them to only use it when they needed to. They then went to New Vegas, and found the town of Goodsprings. They settled down for a bit.

When their father got to old, they went out and looked for stuff to do in the wasteland. They both joined the legion. Ray learned some very skillful tricks, and Joshua learned how to survive. Ray became obsessively violent, but always looked out for Joshua. One day Caesar ordered Ray to beat Joshua for ignoring the Legions orders. Ray knew he had to do it, He went over to Joshua, sat down next to him, and hit him repeatably hit him with his .44, Ray felt extreme guilt that would never go away.

Once the battle of Hoover Dam go underway, Ray and Joshua were sent to take it from the NCR. They failed. Caesar took Joshua and burned him alive, then threw him downhill. Ray then ran to help Joshua, but got hit in the face by Vulpes Inculta. Caesar was about to kill Ray, but remembered the favor Ray did for him. So Caesar took Ray, and threw him into a toxic manhole, then just left him there for three years.

Ray finally broke out. He realized he had turn into a ghoul, the thing he had feared since the bombs dropped. He Ran away to Novac, where him and Joshua stayed while they were looking for stuff to do. He stayed there awhile, then went to Goodsprings. He of course had to change his name. He remembered his favorite radio show, 'The Adventures Of Herbert Daring Dashwood' He remembered Argyle, his favorite character. He then declared himself as Argyle, and stayed that way since.

He found out that their father died. So he buried him and went back to Novac. He put a note in Joshua's mailbox, then headed back to Goodsprings. He stayed there, hoping his brother was alive and well, refusing to admit that he had died. He lived well, until The Courier found him. The Courier persuaded him to accompany him while he gets revenge. Argyle remembered how he wanted revenge. He wanted to kill. He agreed to join The Courier.
