XERXES AI BATTLE RIFLES

*REQUIRES OLD WORLD BLUES*

UPDATES:

VERSION X2

WHAT'S NEW IN X2!

*Version X2 now includes a new AI Controller that allows activation and deactivation of the Xerxes AI at will. You can now disable the AI if it begins to talk too much, and use the rifles just like normal weapons. The AI can be re-enabled at any time using the AI Controller. You can find it in the same shipping container as the original scoped models, along the eastern wall of Helios One.

*X2 also includes new iron sights versions of the rifles, in addition to the original scoped versions! I prefer to engage my enemies at a distance, with a barrage of overwhelming firepower, personally, but non-scoped iron sights versions are more practical for enclosed areas and close encounters!

*I took the advice of some contributors in the comments section, and changed the location of the Xerxes Rifles to be at HELIOS ONE, on the Eastern Wall! They were originally located in the bedroom of the Lucky 38, but since there are many popular mods that change the Lucky 38 suite, this should help avoid any future conflicts. So you can now find all four unique variants of the Xerxes Rifles, plus the AI Controller, in two separate containers along the Eastern Wall of Helios One! ( See the screenshots for details )

WHAT THIS MOD IS ABOUT

There are many, MANY, weapons mods out there with all sorts of cool guns that shoot in a variety of ways. However, with Xerxes I wanted to accomplish something that I haven't seen any other modders do before. I'm proud to take the first shot (as far as I'm aware, otherwise I'll delete this paragraph!) at designing, scripting, and releasing, the first talking weapon! And what's more, Xerxes does more than just talk, it is scripted to keep your character alerted to the present state of battlefield conditions as they carry it with them, with over 40 lines of combat related dialogue!

It even talks smack! :D

Xerxes borrows the idea of the MkII Stealth Suit's AI technology, and adapts it into a pair of unique smart rifles, Xerxes EW and Xerxes SG. The Xerxes Battle Rifles come equipped with a Sentry Bot-based combat AI embedded within the weapons that communicate with the player, and updates you on battle conditions as you fight with them!

WATCH XERXES IN ACTION!!!

Now Download it and try it out for yourself!

The Xerxes Rifles will alert you to hostile presences in your immediate area, as well as give you the all clear when your perimeter is secure. In testing, this comes in VERY handy while wandering through areas where you are likely to get blindsided by enemies you otherwise didn't see coming, such as Cazadores!

While you have Xerxes equipped, it will monitor your character's current combat status, and will alert you to any hostile presences that have initiated combat with your character, whether you can see them or not! Never worry about being blindsided with surprise attacks again! Your weapon literally has your back!

TWO FLAVORS

Xerxes comes in two variations: An Energy Weapons version (Xerxes EW) that deals high damage with a moderate rate of fire, or the Small Guns version (Xerxes SG) that deals moderate damage, but has an extremely high rate of fire, to suit your personal tastes!

Xerxes EW - Energy Weapons Version

Xerxes SG - Small Guns Version

Xerxes EW can fire many of the most common types of Energy Weapon Ammo, including Energy Cells, Microfusion Cells, and Electron Charge Packs, all with consistent velocity and damage output. Respectively, Xerxes SG is also able to fire many common types of conventional ammunition, such as 556mm rounds, 12.7mm rounds, and even 10mm rounds, all while maintaining velocity and damage dealt! This way, compared to most of your other weapons, the Xerxes Battle Rifles will always come with three times the ammo! As an added bonus, several of the different ammo types suited for each weapon come with each rifle.

EASY MAINTENANCE

The Xerxes Rifles are able to be repaired with a wide variety of parts from various sources suited to each weapon. Generally, Xerxes EW can be repaired with parts found in most common Energy Weapons, while Xerxes SG can be repaired with parts from common automatic weapons. Both weapons can also be repaired with Scrap Electronics!

You will find all four of the Xerxes Rifles, plus their AI Controller, and a generous amount of starting ammunition suited to each weapon along the Eastern Wall of Helios One, just north of Novac, in version X2. In the original version, X1, the original scoped models can be found in the bedroom of the Lucky 38 suite.

This mod shouldn't conflict with any mods I'm aware of, but simply REQUIRES OLD WORLD BLUES to be installed AND running, as the Xerxes Combat AI uses the same cell as the Mk II Stealth Suit's AI, and runs on a template of the same script. *NOTE - In future updates, provided I have time, I may update this mod so that it doesn't require Old World Blues, but the current version requires it to be running at the same time as Xerxes.

INSTALLATION: Unpack the Archive, and drop the Textures, Sounds, and Meshes Folders into your Fallout New Vegas / Data directory! Then, drop the Xerxes Battle Rifles.ESP file into the same folder.

Tick the Old World Blues AND Xerxes Battle Rifles mods in your Mod Manager, make your way to Helios One, and find the rifles plus the AI Controller in two shipping containers along the Eastern Wall. Enjoy!

UNINSTALLATION: Simply remove all content related to Xerxes from your Data Directory, including meshes and textures.

Known Bugs:

* When inside areas of high technology, such as the REPCONN facility or Big Mountain, even if you don't have Xerxes equipped or even in your inventory, they may sometimes tell you goodbye. If it begins to speak too often, you can temporarily disable the AI using the AI Controller, located under Apparel in your Pip-boy.

* If you're running Old World Blues mods in addition to Xerxes, you must place Xerxes earlier than those in your load order. Otherwise, mods that affect Old World Blues also affect the Xerxes AI, and it will either tell you "goodbye" for no apparent reason, or fail to alert your character to hostile NPCs. All other functions of Xerxes seem unaffected. Just remember to place Xerxes AI Battle Rifles ABOVE any Old World Blues mods.

If you enjoyed this mod, please leave a comment! I'd be curious to find out which design you favor. The Small Guns version or the Energy Weapons version!

P.S. My apologies to the 12 people who downloaded X2 the night it was uploaded. I forgot to change the name of a single folder in the sound directory, which will keep Xerxes from speaking! If you happen to be one of those people, simply change the name of the folder under Sound/Voice/Xerxes Battles Rifles to Xerxes Battle Rifles X2, and everything should work as it should! An oversight on my part.
