Lutana's CotW Expansion [FNV]
Version 1.0 (RC5) (11/21/13) by luthienanarion and arlekin
[FO3]

Tommy version 1.5 is now available and is once again compatible with LCWE.

RC5 UPDATE 1:
  • Fixed the armor mesh for the Chinese Stealth Armor.

1.0 Release Candidate Notes:

Gameplay Changes
  • The Configuration Duck has been removed. MCM is now required for configuration. The mod can be used with default settings without MCM.
  • The Mysterious Kid companion has been removed. He will be back in a plugin that I can update separately from the main ESM. This would be a good time to check out companions by some other mod authors, such as Caelum, Jake, and Jocelyn.
  • The Child at Heart perk is now a trait selectable at character creation.
  • Lewd Ducks now require the Child at Heart trait instead of the Wild Wasteland trait to collect. [RC5]
  • All child NPCs (even from other mods) are no longer essential or immune to damage and can be killed. [EXPERIMENTAL, NVSE 3 required for leveled actors]
  • REVERT is now an equipable armor object. It will revert the player's equipment when equipped and prevents all item swaps until it is unequipped.
  • Headgear and armor swaps are performed on all actors by default. The scope of the items swaps can be narrowed in the MCM menu.
  • The TAGS function can now be disabled without exiting and reloading.

Migration Mode [EXPERIMENTAL FEATURE]
  • Some inner workings have changed, so equipment data must be migrated from the beta in order to update the mod with an existing save.
  • IMPORTANT: All LCWE items (child versions of armor and headgear, adult versions of headgear if they have been worn) will be lost unless they are in the player's inventory. If you have items stored somewhere, it would be prudent to fetch them before using Migration Mode.
  • To use Migration Mode, load both the beta (LCWE.esm) and the 1.0 master (Lutana CotW Expansion.esm).
  • The migration process is automatic and requires no user-input. It may take a few minutes to complete, depending on how much stuff you're carrying.
  • When the process is completed, your game will save and exit. Disable the beta (LCWE.esm) and load the Migration Save to continue your adventure.
  • All of MK's equipment will be saved and restored when the MK plugin is released. The restoration process will also be automatic.

Uninstall Mode [EXPERIMENTAL FEATURE]
  • This feature is for people who decide that the mod sucks for some reason. It prepares a save file for removal of the mod.
  • IMPORTANT: All LCWE items (child versions of armor and headgear, adult versions of headgear if they have been worn) will be lost unless they are in the player's inventory.
  • The uninstall process is automatic and requires no user-input. It may take a few minutes to complete, depending on how much stuff you are carrying.
  • When the process is completed, your game will save and exit. Disable the ESM and load the Uninstall Save to continue your adventure without this mod.

The NVSE check is back.
  • This caused some headaches during the alpha, but Gribbleshnibit8 has pointed me to a reliable method.
  • Some scripts will behave differently (better) if NVSE 3 is used instead of NVSE 2. Check silverlock if you need to update.
  • NVSE 3 is not required, but highly recommended.

Improved debugging and error handling.
  • The startup initialization process will halt immediately when an error occurs instead of when the current script finishes.
  • Initialization list-count error messages will now tell you (by name) what mod failed to load properly instead of what script failed to complete.
  • The EXT list loader will skip the EXT lists entirely instead of halting the init process if the lists' counts do not match.
  • While in Debug Mode, adult actors will have a red shader applied and child actors will have a green one. You no longer have to check an actor's inventory to determine how the mod has classified them.
  • While in Debug Mode, a message is displayed when changing cells. All other debugging messages have been removed or moved to the console.
  • The Dematurator is automatically added and equipped when Debug Mode is enabled.
  • The Dematurator no longer has an Advanced Functions (AGX) mode. All functions are now baseline.
  • The Dematurator can now provide access to actor inventories. [EXPERIMENTAL]
  • The Dematurator can now toggle the Essential flag on leveled actors. [NVSE 3]

Bugfixes
  • Arlekin has fixed several of the armor meshes that had minor problems. [RC2]
  • Child characters will no longer be incorrectly scaled to adult height when starting a new game.
  • After the initial race selection, child characters will automatically scale to fit the viewing window in the race, barber, and plastic surgery menus.
  • Child characters will be able to re-configure their hair and face using a mirror in Doc Mitchell's house when starting a new character. [EXPERIMENTAL: save/load voodoo involved]
  • The CUTE shop vendors now sell their wares at all hours. They will now only refuse to speak to you if they are a stolen horse.
  • The Dematurator will no longer show invalid information about an actor's equipment after said equipment has been removed.
  • The Dematurator should no longer be able to critically hit. It now has zero spread. [RC5]
  • LCWE perks and items now have Pip-Boy icons.
  • Lewd Ducks can now be dropped once collected.
  • Child-specific items (such as found in the CUTE shop) can no longer be worn by adult actors.
  • The child version of HeadWrap01 has replaced the adult version in the child headgear list. [RC3]
  • CotW's Aigis Armor now has both hands. [RC5]
  • Moved player stats to its own submenu in MCM.

Compatibility
  • Support has been added for Gribbleshnibit8's Roleplayer's Alternate Start. The re-customization mirror is moved to the starting shack.
  • Support has been added for Yukichigai's Toggle-able Enhanced Vision. The vision effects will work with the child versions of items.
  • The Sugar Bombs conflict with PN rebalance was been worked around (again, thanks to Gribbleshnibit8). Sugar Bombs will now randomly be replaced with Unopened versions when discovered.
  • The VX and CH versions of the Rebreather now use their own script to avoid conflicts with other mods that modify the vanilla script.
  • Most edits to vanilla scripts have been removed and handled separately. The REVERT armor will be force-equipped in some areas to prevent quest breakage.
  • All edits to vanilla child NPCs have been removed. Their equipment is now dynamically replaced by the Child Tokens.
  • The DLC check that handles item removal now applies to all supported mods.
  • A number of items have had the Hair body slot added to them. [RC3]
  • The unused Confederate Hat now works in the swap system. [RC5]

Support for The Legacy of X-13 [RC2]
  • Any of the texture variants can be used. The glow maps do not seem to be working, however. [RC5]
  • The helmet is not yet supported, pending approval for conversion from the creator of the mesh. [Still no reply as of RC3.]
  • To obtain the recipes for the armor upgrades on a child character, equip the suit with REVERT equipped. This also activates the suit's voice and chem-injecting functions. Unequip REVERT afterward.
  • If you equipped the suit with REVERT equipped, equip REVERT again before unequipping the suit to stop the voice and chem injections.
  • You must equip REVERT in order to upgrade the suit, as the recipes require the adult versions.

Support for Your Little Brother Jake
  • His 12.7mm Pistol has been replaced with a much tamer 9mm, so he will use other guns that you give him.
  • His Switchblade has been replaced with a more balanced version.
  • His outfit has been replaced with generic clothing, and it can now be removed from his inventory. [RC5]
  • It is no longer possible to encounter an integer overflow due to an ever-increasing amount of Magical Companion Ammo in his inventory.

New Items
  • Pokeballs are sold by Gregory Hughes in the CUTE shop and can be found with the Wild Wasteland trait in a few other places. They are single-use and summon a random creature to assist you until it dies.
  • Players with the Wild Wasteland trait are in for a surprise or two in Freeside.

What This Mod Does:

This mod is an unofficial expansion of Children of the Wasteland.

Features:

  • LCWE will automatically convert any regular (adult-sized) headgear or armor into a child-sized version when equipped by a child character. Those familiar with LCH will feel right at home with the addition of armor conversion.
  • LCWE fixes a number of bugs caused by the way CotW implements playable child races.
  • LCWE brings back the Child at Heart perk, and adds content specific to it.
  • LCWE removes the CUTE shop from Goodsprings unless you enable it in the configuration and changes the stats on the armor and clothing sold inside to more sensible values.
  • LCWE includes a gun called the "Dematurator" that turns children into adults and adults into children.
  • LCWE includes an updated version of Arlekin's Breeze Jr. body from the one included in CotW.
  • Some humorous items and perks can be obtained.
  • More features are planned, and suggestions are welcome.

Compatibility:

LCWE is compatible with the following mods without extra plugins:

LCWE is NOT compatible with Lutana's Child Headgear, as it supersedes its functionality. The same is true for Breeze Jr. Armor if you have it.

Requirements:

Installation:

Use NXMM/FOMM or install manually.
Overwrite files as necessary.

Configuration:

Configuration requiresThe Mod Configuration Menu. Without MCM, the default configuration values are used.

Known Issues:

  • Very few child clothing and armor items have separate female meshes. This is known, but not an issue. More female-specific meshes will be added as they become available and permissible to use.
  • The Dematurator can sometimes cause NPCs to become hostile. Save before playing around with it.
  • The Dematurator's "Open Inventory" function doesn't always work the first time it is fired.
  • The child version of the Stealth Suit Mk II (OWB) has no voice. I did fix the 20% sneak speed increase for the fully upgraded child version, however.
  • Not all quests that require the vanilla version of items are handled by the monitoring script. That's what the REVERT item is for.
  • There are around 6,400 lines of script and 650 armor forms in this mod. It's what I do, but I'm not infallible. If things go haywire or something doesn't work like it should, leave a comment.

Uninstallation:

Uninstall in NXMM/FOMM.

Credits:

  • None of this would be here if not for the CotW development team.
  • The lion's share of the armor meshes and the updated boy body in this mod were made by Arlekin and used by permission. This is as much his work as it is mine.
  • Some meshes were donated by Deedes, including the female child versions of the Legate armor and the Stealth Suit Mk II, as well as the Miss Fortune outfit.
  • All of the nonsensical scripting and the GECK-work was done by me, Luthien Anarion.
  • The Pokeball meshes and textures are adapted from Pokeball Grenades by kibblesticks.
  • The Teddy Bear Suit [NYI] uses resources from Alternate Mysterious Strangers for Child Characters by Kristoffer, Jethead, and Zeami.
