About this mod

Adds a Legion Power Armor with variants

Requirements
Permissions and credits
ATTENTION: If you're downloading this for the first time, please disregard the armor replacer esp in the download. Caesar's New Regime is a much better, much larger, and much more detailed Legion overhaul mod. If you like this file, you'll LOVE CNR :) So go check it out!

--------------------------------------------------

Thanks for checking out this Legion Power Armor. It comes in two armor variants, four helmets, and optional gear. Also included is a new one-handed blade of the Malpais.

The optional replacer file will make the Legion Power Armor worn by the Legate (note: a future update will put the original Legate helmet back onto Lanius but with matching textures). Variants of his vanilla armor are then applied to the Praetorians and also the Legionaries fighting at the Second Battle for Hoover Dam. NOTE: If you want a copy of the "DamWar" variant, check Caesar's footlocker (facial hair may clip). This is just the beginning of the replacer esp. Leave comments with your feedback and suggestions.

Please report any (serious) bugs. The armor is BIG and will thus run into some clipping issues unavoidably. These aren't game breaking. Just accept the small ones for what they are and let me know about big ones. (note: I removed the tubes from the original version of this mod to reduce clipping issues)

We're over 3,000 downloads, have over 100 endorsements, and we're in the running for File of the Month! Thank you all!

PLEASE contact me if you want to create a Project Nevada compatibility patch

1. Credits and Permissions

First and foremost, credits go to the following:

CaBaL120 (bornagain textures) - For an AMAZING job on the textures. He took a mesh of about 17 different combined parts, re-UV mapped the whole thing, then made the textures from scratch! This project would have been a far cry from what it is without him and I can't thank him enough.

daejones - Without him, this mod wouldn't be what it is. He referred me to Cabal and helped me take my first steps in modding.

lautasantenni - For the horns on the helmet near the mouth and the shoulder pauldrons. Be sure to check out his Ashur T-51 mod for FO3 if you have the required files. His work is awesome.

Hedzots - For the facemask variant worn by Legionaries at the second battle for hoover dam.

You can use this armor for whatever you want. However, make sure you credit the above guys and get their permission too. Also, a PM would be nice to let me know how it's being used. Otherwise, consider all my mods (past, present, and future) to be modder's resources. This is with the understanding that you grant the same permission to others with your work. We're all here to enhance the modding community of a game we love. Honesty and generosity are virtues. P.S. - If you ask if you can use this armor in your mod, it means you haven't read this paragraph (because the answer would be yes). So, for you, the answer is no.

2. Location:

In a crate in the Legion's safehouse. There's a picture in the image section.

For the replacer armor worn by Legionaries at the Second Hoover Dam battle, check Caesar's footlocker for the Legion Warrior armor.

3. Mod Explanation

Is this mod lore-friendly? YES. Here's the story.
---------------------------------------------------

As the time of the Legion's first assault on Hoover Dam drew near, members of the original Blackfoot clan--now high ranking Legionaries--sought to pay their respects to Caesar and the Malpais. What they produced was a set of armor for the Malpais to wear as he led them in battle. Before Graham ever saw the armor however, those responsible for constructing the armor presented it to Caesar seeking his blessing.

Caesar's reaction was not what they had hoped. His anger poured out as he scolded his Legion for secretly producing an armor that borrowed so heavily from the technology and culture he hoped to transcend. He charged Lucius with destroying the armor and warned that any such future offense would be met with death.

Lucius was troubled by Caesar's decision. The armor was powerful... intimidation forged in its plates.. fear stamped into its footsteps. In a secret act of defiance, Lucius sent the armor to Atticus for storage in the Legion's safehouse.

Graham soon met the same fate as the armor meant for him: Rejected by Caesar and cast away from the Legion in the crosshairs of destruction.

The armor now waits for you to determine its use.

Will you see the redemption of it as you serve it's original purpose? Perhaps wearing it as you lead the Legion's second assault on the Dam? How many rangers will fall to the Courier clad in the Legion Gladiator Power Armor? What are the stories that will spread of a new Legion monster more deadly than Lanius himself?

Or will you take it up as a symbol of Graham's revenge? Will the armor Caesar rejected return to haunt the Legion as a plague they cannot escape? How many Legion warriors will the Courier slaughter under the protection of the Legion Exile Power Armor?

You decide. And let me know. I'd be glad to hear it :)

4. FAQ

1. Q: I play for the NCR so why should I care about a Legion armor mod?
A: Two reasons. First, you can wear it as described in the back story above--as a means of haunting the Legion with the armor they cast out. Second, and more importantly, I think an important part of combat-based video games is facing an enemy threat that seems insurmountable. If the Legion sits across the Colorado in small numbers in thin armor with small melee weapons, who are they really threatening? As a soldier of the NCR, wouldn't you rather rally against a deadly foe and achieve victory despite the odds? Building up the Legion only helps bolster the immersion for all players.

2. Q: Will you make a female variant?
A: I doubt it. I've never made a single female armor and personally have no interest in creating them. There are plenty of other modders who have given a lot of attention to females in the game. If you can convince someone with a passion for female armors to fit this one to a female body, by all means go ahead. Just read the permissions section above. And it probably goes without saying that females would never have fought for the Legion anyway...

3. Q: Will you do more Legion mods or a full overhaul?
A: I'm seriously considering it. If you REALLY want to see this, leave a comment asking for it after you've endorsed the file and voted it FOTM :)The more interest this file generates, the more I'll be motivated to expand.

I've got more than a few ideas for Legion mods 1.) a Frumentarii armor and group of NPCs, 2.) a complete Legion overhaul including escalating the armor worn at the Dam War, and 3.) Populating the Legion ghost camp with (my dream of) caged Super Mutant Behemoths waiting to be unleashed at the Dam War.

4. Q: Will you make x variant of your armor/helmets?
A: Depends. It doesn't hurt to ask but I'm trying to move forward with other projects now that this one is finally uploaded.

5. Q: Are you crazy? There's no way a bunch of tribals could have the materials, tools, or scientific understanding to produce even a minor/simple PA component, much less a full suit of PA, either from scratch or through jury-rigging of existing components.
A: I disagree. There is already a precedent for tribal power armor in Fallout canon (The Pitt). Also, if Centurions are able to salvage the right arms of T-45 armor (and there are a lot of centurions at the dam war), then the Legion has obviously had access to plenty of power armor parts AND they have the ability to salvage them in some way. In addition, Caesar has a t-45d helmet in his footlocker further evidencing available loot from previous skirmishes with the BoS.

If this aspect of the story is important to you (and just saying original Blackfoot tribals "produced" the armor is ambiguous, I know), you could postulate any of the following: 1. A BoS outcast or group of outcasts defected to the Legion and donated their armor to the cause. 2. Former enclave personnel were captured or commissioned by the Legion to aid in production. 3. Skirmishes with the BoS led to the looting of a BoS bunker and the securing of working power armors or their parts.

Really, it's sci-fi. If you want to find a way of reconciling the armor to Fallout canon, it will be easy. If you want to find a way of finding inconsistency in the armor, well, that will be easy too. But at the same time, it would be easy to find inconsistency in official canon with a sufficiently stiff evaluation.
