LENS - Laser Emitting Neurotechnological Symbiote
(OLD WORLD BLUES required)
This simple mod adds a little follower that is just a floating laser emitter.
The LENS can be found in Doc Mitchell's place. It levels with the player and is essential.
It has a companion wheel just to allow the player to get experience from the follower's kills. There is no inventory space and can't hold anything. The LENS will follow the player, or wait and guard a location. Use the Dialog part of the wheel to pull up the commands.
When the player first interfaces with the LENS they gain a perk called Heightened Awareness. The LENS has the Light Step perk to simulate a floating thing shouldn't set off floor traps. It also has a big sneak bonus due to its small size. It will not initate combat until the player is under attack or is attacking.
The attack is roughly based off ED-E's upgraded zapper attack, but using the PewPew visual effects. It has been added to all the appropriate Form Lists.
When it follows the player, it is tends to point away from the player. Sorta like covering the rear. It usually cant be seen. But, dont worry. It's there.
The idea of the backstory was the LENS appears to be just an inert peice of old medical diagnosis technology that doesn't seem to work. Something that one of the many prospectors that pass through Goodsprings might have traded to Doc Mitchell in exchange for medical treatment. Not being able to figure out that it's purpose is, it gets left laying about Doc Mitchell's examination room with all that other stuff that the Doc has scattered about. Molebutt really doesn't seem to be the most organized of folks.
When the Courier goes rummaging about the place after he wakes up. The LENS reacts to the changed neural structure of the Courier's brain (as mentioned by Dr. Mobius in OWB) and forms a neurological bond.
Actual quest writing, unfortunately, is outside my skill set. But, if anyone wants to take the mod and add in some questing. Please feel free to do so!
