From playing Fallout: New Vegas, you'd have no idea. Okay, "drugs" in Fallout can cause addictions, but so can caffeine. Is caffeine in any way comparable to Psycho, a drug that your character is injecting into his veins (albeit sans animations)? This mod is an effort to villanize what are villainous substances, while adding visual cues that make each one distinct.

List of details:

"Drugs Are Bad, M'Kay" is comprised of two .esps.

Its namesake, the flagship, DrugsAreBadMkay.esp.

  • Adds a visual effect to Jet, Psycho, Buffout, Mentats, Med-X, Stimpaks and Superstims. Think twice before you reach for that Superstim.
  • Adds a visual effect to chemical withdrawal. Any addictive drug will have one. Start sweating.
  • Adds a visual effect to alcohol. Do not drink in presence of Ghoulish hookers.
  • The bonus, FeelingIrradiated.esp.
  • Adds a visual effect to Radiation. The more Radiation a character absorbs, the more pronounced the effect becomes. You'll be seeing green by the end, friend.
  • NEITHER OF THESE MODS CHANGE THE STATS OF DRUGS, OR THE NUMERICAL PENALTIES ASSOCIATED WITH RADIATION.

    Compatibility:

    "Drugs are Bad, M'Kay" will conflict with any mod that changes the stats or visual effects of drugs (alas, it's all part of the same entry).

    Future plans:
  • Listen to feedback and tweak visual effects accordingly (bend to the whims of the masses).
  • Refrain from "balancing" the stats of drugs. I play with Arwen's Realism Tweaks and am sure she'll do something sadistic with them. I've no problem releasing a compatible .esp once she does.


Credits:

Let it be known that "Drugs Are Bad, M'Kay" is, in essence, a regurgitation of Funkmastad's fantastic, original Fallout 3 mod, "Food and Drug Alteration". After popping Mentats with his mod enabled, I could never go back to the bland, forgettable experience that is Vanilla Bethesda drug use.

Thanks is also owed to Lap for his Fallout 3 "Inebriation mod. He personally and graciously allowed me to port his work to New Vegas!

I am not endorsing drug use, nor do I recommend one dabble in it (be it illegally or irresponsibly). I do, however, think it's fun to roleplay a character who's tripping off balls (and is fun to be able to experience this in some fashion).
