NEWS & NOTES

06.03.12: As you may have noticed, I haven't updated this mod or responded to comments recently. RH IronSights for NV is effectively on hold, as I am extraordinarily busy with updates for the original RH IronSights for FO3 and a few Skyrim mods I've been tinkering with (not to mention moving to a different state and starting a new job). Hopefully I'll have some time to return to this mod and tidy it up within the next couple of months. Thanks for your patience and your endorsements!


05.28.11: I left the Caravan Shotgun out of v0.4 by mistake; the model can now be downloaded independently from the Main files section. Merge Data folders and overwrite when asked, as per usual.

Thanks to DekoMan91 for pointing that out.


05.23.11: I've made the mod available again after hiding it for a while. I've been trying to retool it a little bit, but can no longer think of a reason to hide the older versions from the community. Hopefully an update of the mod will be ready soon.


03.15.11: RH_IronSights_NV Version 0.4 is available for download!

The mod has undergone a major revision and restructuring. Hopefully the new version will minimize conflicts while improving the maximum number of weapons.

UPDATE: The Better Binoculars, That Gun, New Weapons, and Sturdy Caravan Shotgun plugins are available from the Optional files section! Please note that the Sturdy Caravan Shotgun absolutely requires the Steam pre-order DLC to work - the plugin isn't a replacer or substitute for the DLC!

1. MOD OVERVIEW

Greetings wastelanders! This mod will make changes and add improvements to the Fallout: New Vegas iron sights system.

It will not be as comprehensive as RH_IronSights for Fallout 3, since, of course, an iron sights system already exists in NV! It will, however, alter some sights that make it difficult to aim and add iron sights to guns that don't have them (i.e. the Laser Pistol).

The mod consists of a master file, RH_IRONSIGHTS_NV.esm, and a series of plugins. The 'Vanilla' plugin reinforces important changes designated in the master file, and should be loaded late in your load order. All other plugins are optional.

The 'RH_IronSights_NV_Vanilla.esp' plugin makes the following changes:

* Weapons without iron sights (i.e. the Laser Pistol and Laster Rifle) now have them.

* Some weapons (i.e. the 12.7mm SMG) have had their iron sights edited and resized for clearer aiming.

* Some weapons (i.e. the 10mm Pistol) have had small glowpoints added to the iron sights for night fighting.


The 'RH_IronSights_NV_NewWeapons.esp' plugin currently contains:

* The new Battle Rifle, a non-Unique variant of This Machine, with Extended Barrel and Scope mods (more weapons coming soon).


The 'RH_IronSights_NV_ThatGun.esp' plugin:

* Changes the name of That Gun to .223 Revolver and doubles its standard and critical attack strength.


The 'RH_IronSights_NV_BetterBinoculars.esp' plugin:

* Reduces the FOV of the Binoculars to 17 degrees, for an improved viewing distance.


In order to know where to focus my efforts, I need to know which sights people like and which ones they don't. Please leave feedback, comments, and suggestions!





2. INSTALL / UNINSTALL

To install:

1. Merge the Data folder, found in the mod's main download package, with the Data folder in game's root directory. Do not put one Data folder inside the other!

2. Select Yes if asked to merge or overwrite any files.

3. In your mod manager or Data Files tab, check the RH_IronSights_NV.esp file. Load it as late in your load order as possible.


To uninstall:

1. Uncheck the .esp.

2. Restore your models from a backup.

4. FAQ

Q: "Why make this mod when New Vegas already has iron sights?"

A: I, and many NV players, feel that the vanilla iron sights sometimes leave a little something to be desired. This mod is intended to improve, not replace, the vanilla game mechanic.


Q: "My weapon is glowing. Is it radioactive?"

A: No, I probably just did something dumb with the texture. Post a comment and I'll fix the problem.


Q: "Who do some of my weapons still show the crosshair when I aim in iron sights?"

A: Weapons not originally set to have iron sights (i.e. the Laser Pistol) have a visible crosshair when aiming. I am working on a way to remove this, though it may require some version of FOSE.


Q: "I have the New Weapons plugin, but can't find any of the added guns - where are they?"

A: It may take up to 3 in-game days for characters, vendors, and containers to respawn with new weapons. If after 3 days you still can't find the new weapon in loot or stores, contact me.


Q: "Can I get a version that JUST changes iron sights, and doesn't add any new weapons, change names, etc.?"

A: In early versions of my mods, I tend to lump changes together into single files. As time goes on I will make RH_IronSights_NV much more modular, so that you can pick and choose the features you want.





5. OLD NEWS

03.13.11: Everyone, RH_IS_NV is going on a teeny tiny hiatus (hopefully no more than a day) while I work around a new file I just downloaded.

The file is the Rifle 1st Person Accuracy Fix by the venerable joefoxx082. It fixes the alignment of every rifle weapon in the game with one fell swoop, and will be required for future versions of this mod.

So today I'll be removing any rifles I adjusted (but leaving any glowpoints or other specialty sights) and ensuring compatibility with mods like EVE-NV and WMX. As soon as I'm finished I'll upload v0.4a; again, this hopefully won't take me much longer than Sunday afternoon (US time). Thanks, and stay tuned!


01.31.11: RH_IronSights_NV v0.3A is now available for download!

Weapons added in v0.3A:

* Re-done .357 Magnum;

* Battle Rifle ('New Weapons' plugin);

* This Machine;

* Brush Gun;

* Cowboy Repeater;

* Trail Carbine; and

* Varmint Rifle

All mod and Unique variants are supported.

Also available is the new That Gun plugin. It changes the name of That Gun to .223 Revolver, and doubles its standard and critical strength! Enjoy!

01.02.11: Happy New Year, wastelanders! I'm sorry that I haven't updated this mod in a long time, but I've been busy looking for a job (in that most wretched hive of scum and villainy, the video game industry) and I haven't had the chance to work on it. I have not forgotten you or New Vegas, and fresh updates should appear later this month. Cheers!


11.06.10: RH_IronSights v0.2A is now available for download! The mod is now based on a master file with several plugins. Please leave feedback on your experience - I value your input!

10.31.10: RH_IronSights v0.13A has been tested, and works! I've uploaded it to the site.
