How bothered would you all be if this sniper rifle didn't have iron sights. Because model does not have them built in and the only RIS sights I can find that are proper next gen style that mill would touch don't really fit the guns style. Keep in mind that this is a sniper rifle and not a battle rifle. Seriously, you should be switching to another gun for close range gunplay as it is. We didn't make like 50 guns so you could use one your whole game...
Google image search results tell me that the scope is exactly where it's supposed to be? The images that had it further back also had taller legs on the scope so what I'm assuming is an easier time for the casing to eject. This scope has the shorter legs.
either way after reading, not knowing weapon specs personally. I'm just wanting to shoot a powder ganger in style. Thanks for the plethora of awesome mods!.
I managed to find a current production model of the Scout(same as the one Mil is doing) with an identical scope and scope rings in the correct position. Most long-range scopes are near-impossible to use because of the poor eye relief, which is why aside from the stock pictures by Steyr, most of the images of these use a scope mounted over the action. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k185/jimkurtsey/DSCN1239.jpg
It's your mod, so I'm not going to b&@*$ too much, it's just something that's always bugged me with Steyr Scout game models.
This is a scout rifle a jack of all trades master of none. The low magnification forward scope is to keep peripheral vision for tracking targets, higher magnified scopes would hinder the purpose of a 'pure' scout rifle making it difficult to track and hit targets at closer ranges. Of course this is a game so it will be implemented as any other scoped bolt rifle but still I find the forward scope to be part of the scout's charm.
I left it where it was since most of the reference photos I found had the scope placed where it is in the render. The gun spergs who care enough can move it back themselves in the nifs if they choose to, it's separated after all.
I know, I'm saying that most of the Scouts I see on Google don't come with any sights. You could put some on the rails, but you'd have to remove the scope then.
Please don't take this as "hurry up" or anything like that as I am only asking because I want to learn, but I was wondering what takes these so long? When I make textures (I understand that mine are much worse than yours) I generally finish very quickly. Do you have some sort of process that causes it to take longer (ie: do you draw all those small scratches by hand? Do you create your own base metal texture? Do you use reference images often or do you draw everything by hand?) Is this extra time worth it? Or is it more nit-picky sort of stuff? I only ask because i want to spend more time on my textures and find i simply run out of things to do (as in, I can't think of any more things to add)
I don't usually take more than a couple to a few hours, but my free time/motivation (especially) are somewhat limited by my job modeling spaceships 5 days a week, so my attention for mod stuff is quite fickle. Anyway, I tend to layer quite a lot of subtle effects on top of each other and try to mask shapes quite carefully to get more interesting results. I could just use a generic scratch brush and run it across all edges but that's not how real materials wear down.
Ok, thank you That actually helps a lot, because I've been kinda putting scratches everywhere were there are edges, although I've been slowly transitioning to adding more scratches and thicker scratches in areas where they would be. Again, thank you.

for a change of pace?
Any idea if an iron sights version is possible as well?
Thank you for work once again.
There's a similar flip-up notch above the barrel. It's only really designed for emergency use if the scope is damaged in field though.
In fact I can see the rear flip-up sight in your image
