   Wouldn't be very effective; too much noise would escape from the cylinder.

      Ever heard of a gas seal? No i mean the moving forward of the cylinder to seal off the gap not a seal with a gas canister.

      If you wanna keep it logical maybe it would work as a futuristic variant of the Mosin Nagant m1895? It was made in 1895 and was able to be supressed by exactly what the other dude was talking about. They made it for .32 acp, I bet with some creative freedoms that keep with the lore it could be converted to .357magnum /.38 special? That'd be a niche to fill.

      The weapon itself (suppressed Nagant Revolver) might be a reference to the VietKong assasins who used the very same weapon to assassinate the "tunnel rats"
