I was looking for the next chapter and found nothing! And I am a sucker for happy endings! Well, a lot of sorrow and sadness - and then a glimmer of hope. I cannot for the life of me think up how Val could have survived that ride and explosion. But please don't tell Veronica I really hope that there is substance to those rumours. If any deserve to be happy it have to be these two
It does say something about Val and Ronnie's world that rumors of a blood-drinking mutant in the hills would give her hope. Veronica is a very determined and resourceful woman, so if anyone can find Val she can.
A potential happy ending is better than no happy ending.
I like how you've left it open ended enough for us to imagine our own eventual outcomes for everything. The major players, Calhoon and House, go on with business as usual completely oblivious of who secured their future and that's par for the course.
I wonder if one she's found Val, Ronnie will want to keep traveling or insist they settle down somewhere.
Val rarely gets any recognition for her achievements, such is her lot in life I imagine that even if Ronnie tries to settle down with Val, events will conspire to put them on the road again

Even if it's to give her a swift kick in the shin
