  • Dragon Age 3: Inquisition confirmed

In not especially surprising news Bioware has confirmed they are working on Dragon Age 3, subtitled Inquisition. Mark Darrah, the executive producer announced the game in an online letter, which curiously contained part of his own CV.

I am pleased to confirm that we are, in fact, working on the next Dragon Age game. Not a big surprise to most of you, I know. We have been working on it in some way for about two years now with the bulk of our efforts ramping up about 18 months ago.

  • Expected down-time this evening

A real quick heads up that our provider is going to be moving our servers in to some new rackspace this evening, within the next 4 hours. I'm told the down-time should be no more than 15 minutes, so that normally means 15 minutes - 60 minutes. If you're on the site a bit later and you can't connect, you know why!...

  • The state of Dark Souls modding

Hi everyone, I'm Durante (the guy who made DSfix), and this is my first Nexus news post. I'd like to provide some information on what is possible with Dark Souls modding at the moment, and what might be possible in the future.

Currently, there are two ways to mod Dark Souls. On the one hand there are program modifications such as DSMfix, the 60 FPS mod and my own DSfix, which work by .dll wrapping. On the other hand, since a few versions DSfix supports overriding any of the...

Hot on the tails of our new Grimrock Nexus site we’ve got another special treat for you. It’s my pleasure to announce the launch of Dark Souls Nexus for Dark Souls: Prepare to Die edition.

For those living under a rock for the past few months I’ll break it down a little. Dark Souls was (originally) a dark-fantasy console-only RPG that is well known for being quite difficult but particularly rewarding for players. It was so popular that the PC gaming community petitioned for a ...

  • IGN makes controversial top 100 \"greatest\" RPG list

IGN proves that "greatest" is entirely subjective with their newest list of "100
    Greatest RPGs of All Time".

Skyrim being the newest and flashiest takes out the highest position among the games covered by the Nexus sites at 7th Place.

How easy it was to spend an afternoon, a weekend, a month, in the world of Skyrim. Like its Elder Scrolls predecessors, Skyrim contained a massive land to explore -- a land teeming with quests, characters, and treasure. Considering ...

  • First person combat in Skyrim deconstructed

The California Literary Review has an analysis on the use of camera angles in video games and how they affect how you play. It examines the differences in first person and third person camera angles in Skyrim and Dark Souls respectively. It assesses how the camera angle affects how you play, with a particular emphasis on combat between the two games.

The interesting thing about the first person perspective though, is that as it was used over and over (again primarily by Western deve...

  • Setting of Fallout 4 - Why the Wild West was fun

The California Literature Review has an article on why Boston should not be chosen as the location for Fallout 4, and why Fallout 3 didn't fit the "Western" style setting of Fallout as well as Fallout New Vegas did.

Part of the article is below:

Sure, on the surface Fallout seems like sci-fi and is thus defined by its unique technology. Technology derived from the McCarthy-era fifties, a time of atomic science that barely understood the effects of radiation. Of comp...

  • A potential bug identified in Hearthfire

Kotaku has the story about a possible bug/feature in the Hearthfire.

After you’ve built an entryway and a main hall for your manor, you can start selecting optional rooms like a library or kitchen. Each set of rooms is attached to a wing of the house — you can only build bedrooms in the west wing, for example — but you can only start planning out one room per wing at a time.

This is where the problems start. If you pick a plan from the west wing, start building pa...
