  • Meet the staff (warning: adult content)

I've been meaning to get a staff page up on the site for a while. It's important that the folks who help to keep this site in tip-top shape get some recognition. I'm sure you've all been dying to know more about the ugly mugs who work on the site, so now's your chance. Head on over to the staff page now but be warned; it's not for the faint hearted!...

  • Recent small site updates

For those who like to keep up-to-date with changes made to the site I thought I would post up a recent change log. I only like to announce major changes to the site in the site news, but if you didn't know I keep a log of almost all changes I make to the site, big or small, in the Change Log section of the forums. A YouTube BBCode tag has been added to both the site and the forums, so you can now include YouTube videos in your mod descriptions and comments. Usage instructions are in the cha...

  • ModDB Mod of the Year 2007 -- Support Nehrim

The first stage of voting at the 2007 Mod of the Year awards at ModDB is over and it's now into the gritty stage. The contestants have been rounded down to 100 hopeful mods from a range of games. The only Oblivion mod to feature in the list is Nehrim: At Fate's Edge, a total conversion for the game, listed in the "Best upcoming mods" category. Now, I don't know where I, or the folks on the Nexus forums, have been, but this mod looks pretty damn cool. I'm not a regular at the official forums s...

  • Old poll results, new poll up

After I launched the new tab navigation for the file database I thought it only proper to poll people on whether they make use of tabbed browsers like FireFox, IE7 and Opera. The results are in: Yes, I open most links in new tabs 3513 votes (78%) Sometimes, for select things 411 votes (9%) Nope, I'm living in the past 225 votes (9%) Tabbed browsing? 351 votes (7%) It's nice to see that most people have moved into the new millenium. The new site poll returns to the fantasy g...

  • Dark0ne interview on the Bethesda Blog

A little self promotion never hurt anybody, right? GStaff, the community manager at Bethesda has recently conducted a Q&A interview with me. Here's a small tidbit: "Any exciting plans for the site that you’d like to share with the community? Lots and lots of plans, as always, but I’m often loathe to speak too soon just in case I hit a snag. I hate to disappoint people. I’ve got plans for new sites that I won’t discuss, but when it comes to TES Nexus there’s always things on my li...

  • Important: database reversion

Due to a nasty hardware issue with the server the site runs on I have had to revert the mysql database back to the most recent stable backup, made around 36 hours ago. Unfortunately that means all file data between now and that time has been lost, including new files, edits made to files, images and mirrors. Forum data is safe, so any comments made should still be visible. I apologise for the problem. Please help spread the word to those authors that might not read this message. Thanks to ...

  • London server issues and FireFox crashing

The London file server has croaked this evening. Early investigation seems to point to an impending hard-drive failure but I will have to wait until tomorrow (23:19 here at the moment) until I can find the true cause. In the mean time please make use of the other two servers for your file downloading. It has come to my attention that some Fire Fox uses are experiencing crashes relating to plugins they're using and the new pop-under adcode. Now, I run the latest version of FireFox with no plug...

  • 'Gotta Screencap Them All' competition ends

November is now over and I am happy to announce the winner of the "Gotta Screencap Them All" competition at TESNexus. A brilliant success, over 10,000 images have been uploaded for files by members of this site where the image does not belong to the user in question. What an awesome testament to the success and partnership of the Elder Scrolls community. Without further ado, in third place, taking home honour, respect and prestige is Loana, uploading images for 568 files. In second place, ...

  • Minor updates including changes to updates today page

I've made a few minor tweaks to the site this evening. The first is the introduction of small icons next to updated files in the updates today log. You can now see what aspects of a file entry the author has updated by looking at the icons next to the file name. This feature has been requested for quite some time and was one of the reasons the action log system was coded. If there's enough demand I could probably code in some filtering options so you can choose what sort of updates (only new fil...

  • File page overhaul, provide feedback please

After returning from a particularly fruitful tutorial with my operations management lecturer at university today I set about working on a few site layout changes I've been meaning to make. First of all let me apologise to those people trying to browse the file database while changes were being made, by the time I realised I was doing live changes instead of changes on my test server it was too late. Oops. The main focus of these changes has been on increasing the overall size of the main cont...

  • Action logs and file page layout changes

Another updated feature has just been cranked out for the file database in the form of the action log. This is an updated version of the original Change Log feature of the site but provides more detailed information on specific updates that authors have made to their file entries. On top of this RSS feeds are available for the action logs of all files in the database, so those people who like to RSS it up can keep up-to-date with their favourite files through their RSS programs. Tied to this...

  • Upload limit increased to 300MB plus a new upload progress meter

Personally I think this update is quite an exciting one. Not only has the upload limit on the site been increased from 50MB to 300MB, but there is also a constantly updated upload meter available for all file uploads. The upload meter shows you how much of the file you have uploaded, how much there is to upload and the percentage of the file that has been uploaded, along with a simple bar display of the progress. I think this is a great improvement on the old system where no visible display was ...

  • Changes to the site, possible downtime/errors

I wanted to let you all know that I am updating the site over the next 48 hours. A number of new and improved features are planned for the site that might require the site server to go down for a short while. Similarly some aspects of the site may not work for a short period. If a feature does not work for more than 2 hours then please report it on the forums. The sooner it gets reported the sooner it will be fixed! Thank you for your patience during this time....

  • RSS feeds

RSS feeds are now available for use on TESNexus. At the moment there are four feeds available: latest site news, latest site blogs, new files today and file updates today. Please feel free to use them to keep up-to-date with all the new Oblivion mods and site news. I'm considering doing an over-haul of the way the file database records and shows all the edits made to files on the site. My intention is to add more transparency and detail to edits made so people know exactly what has been chang...

  • File server #3 launched -- European downloaders rejoice!

I have just launched a third file server located in London, England. European downloaders should choose to download from this server to get better file transfer speeds. On a similar note file server 1, located in Chicago, is now back in full operation after a small hacker issue was discovered over the weekend. Happy downloading!...

  • Chicago file server returns

The Chicago file server is now back up and running. The files are being transferred from a mirror, but you can still make use of the Chicago server. If you see a blank page for a short while then this is the server retrieving your file from another mirror -- if you're patient your file will be available for downloading momentarily. A London based server will be available at the start of next month....

  • Chicago file server hack issue

Hi folks, Thought I'd let you know that the Chicago file server has been hacked today. I believe the hacker was attempting to use the server as part of his Denial of Service attacks on a univeristy, and this was not a pointed attack against the site or community in general. How the person gained access is unknown and under investigation. The server is simply used as a file mirror for all the files at TESNexus. As far as I know all the files have been lost, but the server is only a mirror, ...

  • Top contributers listing and recent updates log fix

Forum member Abramul suggested creating a section of the site for the top contributers in my recent post regarding the "Gotta screencap them all!" mod competition. While a bit different from his idea, I have created a top contributers page on the site to list the members who are most active and adding the most content to the site. Current top lists include; top file uploaders, top file commentors, top file taggers, top file image uploaders, top image share uploaders and top forum posters. Thi...

  • Download history, user uploaded file images, and a COMPETITION to win free stuff!

It's all happening today, folks! First of all I have completed the download history section of the site. This handy little page allows you to see all the files you have downloaded from the site since it was launched. This was originally intended to be a Premium Member only feature, but what with the awesome donations I have received from people the server is now more powerful and can now cope with all users having access to this feature. However, Premium members will still be the only ones wh...

  • Fighter's Stronghold (official plugin) FREE this week only

As I'm sure many regulars know Bethesda's last official plugin for Oblivion has now been released, and for this week only it is available to download for free. This is a great gesture from Bethesda and I hope people respect it as such. As it mentions on the download page please do not upload this file to TES Nexus, or any site for that matter....
