IGN have posted a preview of the new KotN "expansion". They've also posted a bunch of videos and high resolution screenies. It sounds like the KotN questline consists of "go here and fetch/kill this" for pretty much all of it. Spectacular.
Important for Supporters
A bug was recently found and fixed in the "top-up" system that meant that, over the past fortnight if you paid for a subscription it more than likely won't have gone through (although payment has been received) unless you emailed me letting me know.
If you have paid for supporter time but are not receiving the benefits please contact me with the email you used to pay for the time as well as your username and I'll credit your account. Never fear, your supporter time will start from when I set it, not from when you paid :)
Lots of aesthic changes to the site have been done today. Most noteable change is moving the "Files" news, which mostly contained news on the day's uploaded/updated mods directly into the file system and out of the front page of the site. This was done because important general news to do with Morrowind/Oblivion/The site was getting quickly shunted down the page before being seen by a lot of people.
You can see the past 10 days worth of uploaded/updated mods in the left-hand navigation of the file system now.
I've also changed the "Support The Source" notice so that it only shows on the index page of the file system. On any other page it is no longer visible so less scrolling needs to be done to get to actual content.
There's a new interview over at Killer Betties with Pete Hines about Knights of the Nine that clears up quite a few questions. Most importantly, it confirms that this release does behave like an expansion pack:
The disc for PC includes Knights of the Nine plus all the other downloadable content (DLC). So you have to own Oblivion and have it installed to play it.
Unlike some of Pete's pre-release/pre-Knights comments, what he says in this interview should be reliable, as Knights of the Nine is close to release.
I've installed a new beta system which still needs full testing but has worked on every test I've tried so far.
Authors/Uploaders can now choose from two seperate methods of getting their files on the server. The first is the normal upload method good for files up to 50MB in size. The second (new) method is the Transfer function which allows you to select a direct download location for your file and have the server upload the file for you. To futher clarify..
You've uploaded your file to your own webspace or a free upload/download service like RapidShare. You simply need to enter the download location for the file and the system will upload the mod for you straight from the site, saving you a good deal of time being sat around waiting for your upload to finish (and save you some bandwidth!).
This is the only way you can add files greater than 50MB at this time.
As always if anyone finds any issues with the new system please let me know ASAP.
I've put up a new poll on the site in regards to the newly announced mod from Bethesda which introduces a new faction/questions to Oblivion. To clarify the question, it asks how much you'd be willing to spend on the new faction/quests alone (i.e. not for the boxed package you'll be able to buy in the stores).
The last poll question asked "How many mods are you currently using in Oblivion?" with the following results:
None - 9% / 411 Votes
Less than 10 - 22% / 978 Votes
Less than 25 - 27% / 1161 Votes
Less than 50 - 19% / 813 Votes
Less than 100 - 10% / 421 Votes

Thought I'd post this up in the main news since many people have asked for this functionality since the rating system was first introduced. Quoting the file database change log:
Re-Rating Of Files
You can now re-rate files that you have already rated. Your old vote will be removed from the database and your new vote cast (therefore stopping you from voting twice for the same mod).
It looks like Knights of the Nine will be gracing the Xbox 360 and PC on the 21st of November. See this press release. Most importantly, they're releasing a retail box including Knights of the Nine and all downloadable content thus far!
No word on pricing yet. Let's hope it's not too steep.
Just thought I'd pop some news up to let you all know that I moved into my new house in Exeter yesterday, ready for the new University year next week. At this time I have no internet access and probably won't have for a week, maybe two.
I can catch emails and keep up-to-date on the forums through my department computers but will not be replying to many emails or forum topics since I don't have the time to spare (and it sorta screws with my organisation of knowing who I've emailed/who I haven't!).
If anyone has any problems with Supporter payments then please be rest assured that they'll be dealt with when I'm back online with the proper measures being taken to make sure your time is reimbursed.
A lot of people are emailing me or PMing me at the moment saying they can't login with their username and password. 99% of the time this is because you are not using your username but your "Display Name". During March and April a setting was on in the forum software that enabled you to change your Display Name, the name other people saw you as. This did not, however, change your actual user name.
Please use your username, not your Display Name to login to the site.
