Announcing Adult Nexus in development

  • Comment
I'd like to take this time to announce some new spin-offs to the Nexus sites labeled Adult TESNexus, Adult Fallout 3 Nexus and Adult Dragon Age Nexus that are currently being developed. While these sites are not finished I'm announcing them now to gauge community response and receive feedback on what possible users would like to see from the sites. While I can't fulfill all requests I always learn a lot and get lots of great ideas for future site features from these sorts of feedback sessions.

As the name suggests the Adult Nexus sites will be for adults. Not necessarily for adult-only content but for adults in general. The idea is to create a more exclusive community in which those who wish to partake can enjoy the Nexus site structure with inebitably fewer and perhaps more mature people. Why would I want to create such a site? You'd be surprised how many people email and private message me saying how much they love the site but can't stand a lot of the idle public chatter, or the way some people talk, or the possibility of some trolling, or the whiners...the list goes on.

Adult Nexus sites will be a get away for people such as this who prefer smaller communities rather than larger ones. While this may sound elitist it definately isn't the aim and my main focus will always be on the main Nexus sites. However creating a small community network for those people who don't like being in the large hussle-bussle of the main Nexus sites has been something I've been pestered about for many years, back to the TESSource days.

Adult Nexus sites will be a pay-to-enter site at a one off fee of £1 (about $1.55). Paid once and only once via PayPal and perhaps a few other online payment gateways. Why is it pay-to-enter? Because a simple 'What is your date of birth' just isn't going to cut it. I need a realistic way of only allowing those in who have the highest chance of actually being adults and what better way than to require a credit or debit card? Yes, people younger than 18 can get debit cards but this seems the most logical and indeed most simple way of doing things. It also has the added bonus of adding an extra deterrent against trolls who want to ruin it for everyone. Premium members past and present will automatically be able to enter Adult Nexus sites and will not need to pay the one-off fee.

The fee isn't designed to put money in my pocket. Running some numbers if (what I consider to be rather unlikely) 1,000 people were to pay the fee it would only cover one half of the Nexus's monthly costs. Hopefully that should put things in perspective.Similarly there will be no advertising on the Adult sites; this is not a money chasing scheme.

What will be on the sites? Simply put they'll be trimmed down Nexus sites with a file database and an image share database. Some of the stuff that has been disallowed in the recent terms and conditions update will be allowed on the Adult Nexus sites. Pictures of nude characters will be allowed in the image share section but I'd like to stress that the intention isn't for the Adult sites just to be for risque content; users will be able to upload anything within the bounds of the terms of service (so still no paedophilia, necrophilia, bestiliaty and all the usual illegal stuff) but the terms will be much more relaxed for all the stuff still within the realms of legality.

The Image Share section has an added "Content" filter that will seperate pictures of male characters, female characers, pictures of both male and female characters or none of these. So if you like pictures of guys and just guys you can filter out all the other stuff and vice versa.

Image and file uploaders will gain the ability to remove comments on their own files and images on Adult Nexus sites, so uploaders will be their own moderators for their files. If things get out of hand then the moderators will be around to lend a swift swing of the hammer of justice but the idea is for the community to be a bit more exclusive and a bit more autonomous.

This is an interesting idea and something a bit new and different and I'm interested to hear people's response to this. But, please, for the love of all that's good in this world don't go off on a rant putting lots of words in my mouth without providing anything useful. If you don't like the idea then explain why you don't like the idea and provide me with actual alternatives; alternatives that don't involve people scanning-in their passport or drivers licenses and emailing them to me. If you like the idea then show your support and throw some crazy ideas out in the air for me to consider.

I’m going to lock this thread for the time being now. I think everyone who wanted to have a say has had a say and people are either going way off-topic or regurgatating the same stuff.

Thanks for all the constructive feedback offered by those people who actually read and understood my initial post; it’s gone a long way to shaping any potential changes being made to the system.

I’ve got lots of ideas and lots to think about while I’m still waiting to hear back from Bethesda regarding a few issues.

Honestly, a disclaimer and a filter on the mod search should be good enough.

If kiddies are coming in here and their parents get offended by the content that they are being exposed too, then they shouldn't be letting them play a game that is meant for people of a mature audience in the first place.

Anyway, while it may not be a hit to me personally IF your intent is to remove the "adult" content from the main site (as I have to play on a family computer anyway) I'm sure that anyone else who did use them would still not want to use their credit cards for what should be obvious reasons.

Also, LEGALY you cannot transfer any of the free content made by the community that is here already onto a pay site, as you would need consent of the mod creators. And taking into consideration that people who have posted their content here did so with the intent of it being 100% free and made for the community, I doubt you'll get many of them to agree to it.

In my opinion the best way to deal with this is to have "adult" content filtered out by default in the Top 100 files as well as the search engine. Unlike the way it is now, where things like Type 3 and Animated Prostitution take up a majority of the top 100 BEFORE you press the filter button.

But if then you were just going to make a more mature forum then I would kinda have to agree with what Worm82075 said in that it would be a waist of resources.

*edit* Made one or two changes as I seemed to have missed a few things when I was reading. Sorry!

    Oh yes and:
Who would pay money to register and put the data he created HIMSELF without getting paid so that the site may profit from it? thats completly absurd. I personally could not care less about trolls or nude pictures as long as i get the stuff i want fast and from solid servers. Maybe its just an excuse to get some caps / gold after all. But do not be fooled, the amount of hits / downloads on paysite would never be compareable to the current one. This service simply would not take of. At all.

This is absolute madness. The whole point of modding is that its done by gamers for gamers with as little restriction between the parties as possible. And of course for free. The pestilence of Downloadable Content / DLC has expanded frome infected consoles and corrupted pc gaming more than enough, sites like nexus crippling themselves puts the final nail into the coffin. I will never ever pay for downloading content of this kind.

i agree with you wanting to make adult site but for
those people who dont wont to pay i couldn't agree with you more! I NEVER WANT TO PAY simply due to the fact that i dont truely trust anny site with my credit card i use to play wow
when i was younger and i used my card to pay only 75$ for online play the requiered amount for a couple months then when i offerd the funds needed to play over the site i also made sure it went through over the phone. couple days later i found out that blizzerd took more money than they said they would it was nearly 200 and i cant afford alot of that kind of pay with my salary im not saying i cant afford 1.55 but im not going to pay by anny means

    @Worm82075

The Irony is you are completely right, as much as it pains me to admit, the best way to ensure the goal is to completley move it all to this new adult site, sure, younguns will still get in, but it would be alot less, especially not very young people, just because me and half the universe dont want to have all the adult content removed doesnt stop the fact that in reality, its probably the best thing to do.

But anyways the original post doesnt mention moving all adult content over, more just that its more of an adult enviroment (no spam, stupid comments, and kid like talk) and sure, a few mods may be on there that wont be on the mainstream site, but no biggie, its the internet!

I can see an adult site being a haven for the more mature but I still believe that all adult content should be removed from the main site and placed on the adult site. Seems though that very few people agree with me on that so I'll not push the point any further. For the record though I would like to make my opinion very clear.

I think that unless there is full segregation of content then an adult site is a pointless waste of resources that will defeat it's own purpose while failing to give it's creator any positive recognition for having attempted to clean up the current sexually graphical extremism present in the community.

As you know I have a strong desire to improve this community's relationship with Bethesda but I fear this will result in the exact opposite and this will cause Beth to once again distance themselves from us.

As usual though I'll remain here to support you and your sites regardless of your decision on this subject (or any other for that matter) because you and your staff are the reason I've stuck around so long in the first place. It may be presumptuous but I consider all of us to be friends and friends support each other through good times and bad.

Here's hoping everything works out for everyone,

...not to mention the legal ramifications of attempting to create a 'for-pay' subscription site, which I would suggest is in direct contravention of the EULAs for these properties.

Did you EVEN read my comment about the EULA?

You people really need to burn in your brain the fact that Dark0ne is fully, if not always aware of the EULA, and he would obviously discuss his plans with Bethesda about it, so enough about the legality issue. If it becomes not feasible on the legal side, Dark0ne would say so.
