The vanilla game says that trading in Dwemer artifacts is illegal, but nothing comes of it. With this mod, most merchants will refuse to deal with you if you are carrying Dwemer items on your person.

This is a mod I created long ago for Planet Elder Scrolls and decided to put back up here. It essentially makes the game put its money where its mouth is where the sale of Dwemer artifacts is concerned. The vast majority of vendors will not deal with you if you have Dwemer items in your inventory, with the exception of House Telvanni merchants (because who is the Empire to tell the Telvanni what goods they can buy and sell?) and, provided you're a member, the Thieves Guild. And, of course, the Vampire clans.

A very short quest line will also introduce a choice of two merchants that will buy Dwemer artifacts and have a very large supply of gold, one legitimate and the other for the more criminally inclined. In addition, the prices of all Dwemer items have been raised significantly, to reflect their black market status.

Installation

Just place the file DwemerContraband.esp file in the Morrowind/Data Files folder, launch the game, open the Data Files and make sure DwemerContraband is checked off.

Notes

*A path into the aforementioned quest line will be introduced very early in the Main Quest. Otherwise, just go to the Ebonheart Grand council Chambers and talk to Ehlona Celese.

*Smiths will only be affected by the presence of Dwemer weapons and armor. So if you have a bunch of Dwemer Tubes or Mugs in your inventory, Smiths will still take your business

*You must be a member of the Thieves Guild to sell Dwemer items to their merchants.

*If you want a piece of Dwemer equipment enchanted, you should head to Telvanni territory, or their canton in Vivec.

*The global script that identifies Dwemer items in your inventory works on a 10 second timers. This timer can be changed by opening the script "HM_1_DwemerGoods" in the Construction Set and changing all references to TimePassed from 10 to whatever you like.

*This timer means that if you drop all your Dwemer items on the ground, you'll likely have to wait a few seconds before a merchant will do business with you. Of course, it also means that you can drop a Dwemer item on the ground, wait for the timer, then pick it up and immediately sell it to said merchant. But if you want to cheat like that I have to wonder why you're bothering with this mod in the first place.
